Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
well i had to about start over...lost all my storage for parts..ect
went to work for a while.. sold the 65 Biscayne without the motor and trans so i could build a 40x40 barn to put stuff in again The rollback is not a solid front axle...It has regular upper/lower a-arms..like the trucks do..also has a 3inch rear sway bar...It is now fully hydraulic bed...I got tired of breaking 5/8 winch cables..to roll the bed back and forth. 19.5 tires and 4 wheel disc brakes..I changed out the 4.56 gears in the dana70HD 2 weeks ago..because at 70mph it was running 4,000 rpg and just sucking gas..so i put in a 3.73 dana70HD gears and now it is running 3,200 at 70mph next move is a granny 4speed with a 3 speed "brownie" aux trans.. it has low, straight, and overdrive..I will lose 800 more rpm in overdrive so i will be able to cruise 70 mph at 2,400 or i can back up super fast...or crawl up hills.. I am still around...glad to be back...I like tennessee I will get some more updated pics tomorrow as i load my 90 454SS to take to the auction so i can sell it..LOL Last edited by 70BLAZERX2; 06-11-2011 at 09:38 PM. |

Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
Here are a few pics
hydraulic bed upgrade. 2 cylinders from tractorsupply for $185 2 12v elect/hydro pumps from ebay at $220 for the pair 1 60 inch cylinder from a car lift..the one that had the cylinder overhead.new for $300 rear sway bar front susp. pic Makes work of loading alot faster/safer. and the 454 ss going to the sale. and yes the good old north carolina road salt crap does make things rust.. Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
I've thought about adding a rear sway bar to my ramp truck. Did you see a lot of difference with it?

Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
This thing rides super...If you can find a rear sway bar off a 73-91 ton dually truck...that is what you need..and yes it will make a hugh difference in the back..
This rear bar was stock on the motorhome. stock rear springs..and the frame is even double above the DANA 70HD disc brake rear end. |

Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
Update...well the old 69 is in well need of a new cab due to rust..
pass. door wont open without a fight.orignal 69 rocker panel fell off a few months ago...now it is just moving all over...door may fly open at times..just not cool...needs to be fixed.. and just got a nice a/c cab for it today.. after all the cab has now 650,248 miles now and its 42 years old...it deserves a total redo here in the next few months. Trans swap to 4speed with 3 speed "browine box" low ,1 to 1 neu and .23 overdrive out of a 67 GMC.. newer cab...means new paint job..ect...its going to be great again.. |

Re: My 69 custom/30 rollback project
I will post it all here when i do get to taking it apart ..again...
Last truck i will tow is tomorrow..Yes its a 1985 dodge 3/4 that has a blwon clutch in it...Thats the last one before the redo.. I will keep you all updated..for sure.. I guess no one else has done this yet? I wanted an old cab over for it but decided this would be more usefull...and i was right.. New rotors all 4 and ball joints..and nice rust free cab,new paint..the double twin stick setup out of a 67 GMC 4 speed with the brownie overdrive.. Thats a good gas saver..low for pulling the mountains around here, overdrive for the 80mph runs. The purple paint was done in 1994 and the clear cost is just now coming off the top of the hood. was dupont chromabase paint..has a 10 year warrany on it..lasted almost 18years..thats good |
