Re: How do I make the truck loud???
Magnaflow magnapacks or Borla stingers are the trick. They are basically a more refined glass pack type muffler but without all the popping and crackling. If you do it right you will get better performance with your new, louder sound. Run a single 3" pipe with one of these mufflers and a dump. If you are not going to spend the money on headers and a H or X pipe, 1 pipe will be louder than 2.

Re: How do I make the truck loud???
Headers & "Lo-bacs" (sp?)
I used them on my '73 Vega, w/ a 283. At the time of the installation, I didn't have the money for an exhaust system, so I "borrowed" the Lo-bac mufflers off a buddy's race car. It was loud, but not so much to get the Highway Patrol interested. |

Re: How do I make the truck loud???
LOL......Simple......Open headers with no pipes!!!!
Was curious what it would sound like, so when I installed my dynomax headers on my truck this winter, I had to run it with open headers before I hooked up the exhaust pipes. Man I was in heaven!!!! Neighbors hated me though, LOL

Re: How do I make the truck loud???
Seriously, i just ditched my glass packs for some turbos (I roll on a budget). Im a little OCD about my exhaust and have rebuilt it now about 6 times...h-pipe...turn outs...dumps...you name it. The best sounding set up was straight pipes and glass packs with 90 degree turnouts if front of my rear tires. It sounded great with the cam loop. The $hit of it is that one of the packs blew out and sounded like crap. It was pretty loud and I got sick of the resonance in the cab. Little Brother, take it from me...loud is fun, but it gets old. Go ahead and get it how you want it, you can always change it back- Your truck is SWEET...you already have the upper hand on those other boys.

Re: How do I make the truck loud???
First time I had mine done, I had them run the pipes out a 90 degrees behind the rear tires. Regular mufflers. It was really quiet. First set of railroad tracks caused the rear axle to bounce up and knock the pipes loose. Then I just had them cut the pipes and dump them ahead of the axle. Haven't had a problem yet. I did put headers on it with the same set up. Not as quiet as with the long pipes. Sounds good with the secondaries engaged.
I'm one who enjoys the sound of the engine running right over and beyond the sound of a loud exhaust.
