Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I had to take a torch to remove the rear leaf bolts. I think i'm just going to find some to replace them. therubber caught fire and metal got hot , might have fatigued it.

What are these called anyway, anyone know?

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I'm going to get my cab and interior this weekend. finally found one. (thank you Bill)

I need to start my assembly list starting with the frame.

Bolts front and rear, crossmember all Grade 8.
New shackles and bushings, Rear 1/2 ton leaf.
Leaf spring u bolts. (can you buy them anymore?)
Front end rebuild. (have all the napa good quality/lifetime)
Brakes. (rear disc)
Fuel tank. (rear set up?)

In going to finish the front and rearends cleaning and paint, then paint the frame. Install, then install the cab. Then start another list.

Anyone have any tips for tank and rear disc?

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

A couple weeks ago, i talked to Restoreamerica (bill) he had a 1972 cab. After some pics and a inspection by Blap (brad) an offer was made and excepted.
We left at 5am on friday morning for the 4 hour trip from Me to CT, hitting a couple accidents and about a 45 minute delay, we made it.

Met Bill and his son, and got to work.

This is a 72 custom cab i'd guess. (no SPID no title) All the trim, cargo lite, headliner, a/c.

Here is the play by play.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

This cab was restored number of years ago, the whole cab was repainted inside and out. Had cab corners and outer rockers. Wasn't a real good job. But for the price its 10 times better than mine.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

When i got it home, got my dolly ready, and got to look at the bad spots.

Cab corners need replace. And the front drivers cab mount is gone.

The floor and the inner rockers were in very good shape, but i did bend them loading the cab on the trailer. Couldn't be helped.

The rockers are a mess. The previous restorer didn't take care to prep it correctly before installing the new rockers.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

There is a good size spot behind the heater motor, and across the top of the wire channel there is little spot holes, and the there is a couple small spots under the cowl edges on the drivers side.

The worst part is i clean the cowl area out, and it was full of ANTS.(last pics shows some of them) Tiny ants, must have been 3000 of them. I filled my mini shop vac full of them, then i took them to the wood pile, there were so many, comeing out of every spot on the pass side cowl. and i'll tell ya, had the hebe jebes for days. Then i put the air hose down in there, blew out the dirt and leaves, and hosed it our for the final assault on the area.
My body guy, says no problam, he can fix all the spots add the new cab corners, rockers, and the cab mounts, along with the firewall spot and the the rest of the spots. Should be a nice cab when i'm done.
