Yes . Rain pulls down pollution and small streams run into rivers .

Triple Aught design jackets (San Francisco)
TAD sweater (China)

All the carpet and pad I install is made in the US.
Most of the LVP is made in China.

All my carpet tools are made in the US.
Roberts knee kickers are made in Taiwan. I never used another brand of knee kicker until a few years back I broke a couple of them and thought wth. I got to looking at the kicker and it had a sticker that said made in Taiwan. I use Crain kickers now, same with power stretcher.

Re: Sold American!

I have a friend* who got into the reclaimed/recycled wood business early on. Very successful worldwide, Vintage Lumber. They produce laminated flooring. They used to send container loads of their wood to Kansas where they made the flooring, then sent it back. Then they ship to where ever their orders might come from, such as Kansas . But now he sends it to China and back!

* Ok, he's my friend's brother. Known him for years. Not really a friend

A lot of good points made here.

Bottom line is, I support the American worker whenever I can.

Same here. But it seems to get tougher and tougher to do.

For example, I changed the license plates on my Cadillac. When I took the old ones off. The little plastic things in the bumper that hold on the plate just disintegrated. I tried to find OEM GM replacements. No dice. I had to buy some from China because I was in a hurry. I had no plates on my car and that was all I could find.

4 bucks and a week later the plates were back on the car. Sometime's you've got to do what you've got to do.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but there are millions more people of German descent in this country than of Japanese descent. In both WW1 and WW2, a lot of people didn't think that the US should get involved because of their German roots.

Re: Sold American!

Yeah, I know. But without bringing race or nationality into it, just the fact that we were not at war with Japan and they made such a concise planned sneak attack was so underhanded it remains reason enough to hold a grudge today for many, to
some degree.

Re: Sold American!

The problem comes from when the US industries took the jobs overseas to further increase their profit margins by serious multiples. They sold us out to better pad and deepen their pockets. It was an easy all downhill trip and to return is now an impossible uphill climb for less money.

Ok so I am a retired building trades union member, back in 2008 I was on a new sports stadium project that ran from 2006 and opened in 2010 , the first day I got on the job I went to the usual safety, drug testing and orientation ,I was told if your power tools were made by any other company then Makita send them back to your shop ,they will not be allowed on this project , I had to send back 2 gang boxes of power tools and the owner of the company had to replace every power tool with Makita branded tools , Most of all the tools that were replaced were Milwaukee power tools. and this was for every trade on the site we are talking hundreds of men with power tools.

It could have been worse. They could have said to use only Harbor Freight.

Dumb company rules. They used to make me sick when I was working.

Re: Sold American!

I have never owned a foreign vehicle and have never seen the need for one. Most of my tools are U.S.A. Made.My wife needed some new flatware and she found Liberty made in the States. Also some new dishes Made U.S.A. I guess we are pretty particular what we eat off of.I kind of like it that way.I got tired of cutting down a Christmas Tree on my land so we went with artificial American made.I support the American worker wholeheartedly because they support me when they eat the food I produce.

Re: Sold American!

It's been quite a few years since I first bought a Genuine GM part at the dealership that was made in China. I think the first part like that was a tailgate support cable for a '92.

Re: Sold American!

I bought a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 in 1980 that had a spun rod bearing. I pulled the engine and it is on a stand in the corner of my shop (The car is in a shed).
I pulled that 50 year old grommet and used it rather than use China parts.

I think we can all agree that today's rubber parts are made with far less quality than the originals were, as well as most anything else for that matter. Technology has made it possible to design and manufacture a specific life span of many things. Cost more and shorter lives.

I used to scoff when people talked about "Planned Obsolescence". It should actually be called "cheap stuff", and the Chinese have that down to a science. I will confess right here that our family has bought 3 vehicles in the last 6 years from Kia, simply because they have the best warranty. I personally would like to sell my little econobox that I bought 4 years ago and get another old truck. I don't drive enough these days that mileage is really a concern. I've put about 16k miles on that car in those 4 years. I'd love to have an old step side with the chains on the tailgate rattling while I'm driving down the street. Step sides seem to be rare, and the prices I'm seeing are keeping my butt in my little econobox.

Re: Sold American!

Planned obsolescence is a very real practice that began after WWII. It just means they started looking at components as only needing to last as long as the rest. Not built hoping to last forever any more. Purely a matter of economics, not some evil action with the intention to leave you on the side of the road, as some might like to see it

The thing that makes it all worse is when they print CHINA where you will always see it. The good old stuff didn't have USA printed there.

I know there are only a few companies who own almost all the tire companies. Last time I checked only one was American. I have been making sure I am buying tires made in the USA all along. I've had younger guys defend them as being good tires for the money when I say I could never bring myself to run a tire on a Chevy that said Kumho, Yokohama, or any other Asian brand. There is more to it than tread wear, handling, or any other performance feature. I don't run foreign tires on my American truck just like I don't put cheese on my stir fry, and you don't see raw sausage served on a sushi tray
