Re: Dropmembered trucks
I got everything from Jeff at CPP. I used there axle kit, and they fit great. I was a little worried at first opening up the rear, but it went really easy, and Everything fit perfect. The brake set up on the other hand was a pain in the a$$, the instuctions suck. I just took my time and everything fell into place but it was not as easy as i thought it could have been with better instuctions. Anyway i am happy, it's coming along.
PS i got the fronts as well i hope to get them on this week Thanks Ray Last edited by lowdownstar; 07-02-2010 at 09:17 AM. |

I can only speak from my research and experience. I intially bought early classic 2.5" drop spindle which is a great spindle but it would not allow me to run the brake kit I wanted (Wilwood 14" SLR). I then had to go with the new CPP modular spindles which I believe will allow you more options for after market brakes. They (CPP Modular) also narrow the track width a bit, gave me more tire fender clearance in my "extreme" application, which was another benefit for me. i think the CPP Modulars a re a 2.0" drop. |

Re: Dropmembered trucks
If you're going with the front Dropmember and Arm set-up AND looking to purchase a new spindle, I always recommend getting a 73-87 HD (1.25" rotor) spindle. The replacement parts such as ball joints, bearings, rotors etc. are more plentiful and a little less expensive when it comes time to replace them.

I am wanting to put some flashy brakes on it but am not sure which ones fit which spindles... right now id like to put a set of captain fab's rear conversion for the d52 calipers and run wilwood calipers all around and some drilled/slotted rotors. any advice on a set of rotors that match the HD spindle for the Front and an AWD astro van for the back. |

Re: Dropmembered trucks
So has anyone installed a raised crossmember in a truck that has a motor in it? I ordered a SD front kit and we are planing on just lifting the motor up a little and swopping it out...

I know the Dropmember can be installed with the motor in with a engine hoist being used to lift the motor. Last edited by Ghostwhite; 05-28-2010 at 07:33 PM. |

Looks at www.Porterbuiltstreetrods.com. Check out the white '78 Dropmember build pics. I believe it was done with the drivetrain in place. If it was me,... I'd pull the engine and trans. Also,... welcome to the board.

Re: Dropmembered trucks
Off topic, but where did you get your engine? The only reason I ask is that I help load engines for dyno and dress engines out for shipping at MAST in the evenings and we use that same green tape. Just curious if it was from MAST or not. But the MAS sensor threw me off, they all run on density if you get the controller.
