Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
I've got a 1971 C10 SWB. I'm trying to figure out a good door logo. Something clever, incorporating my son's name somehow(Parker). Just not sure what to go with...Any ideas?

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
My truck has a wrap on it that I have thinking about removing and doing the fauxtina thing with a painted logo of some type for the door. Here are pics of the truck with the grey wrap and a pic of it without, under the blue paint is the trucks original orange. Thoughts?

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
Ok so you want to remove the wrap, then sand the blue to break through to the orange? Am I following right? Since you asked for opinion, i would ditch the wrap since i see too much gray nowadays. I like the blue and would love the orange, but orange breaking through might look good.

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
Sy2767, that's a nice truck you've got there. You asked for thoughts so here's mine. Fauxtina never looks like or as good as actual patina and since you are familiar with vehicle wraps I would recommend looking into a patina wrap. I've seen them on other vehicles and they are much more convincing than fauxtina. At least in photos.
Just a thought. Last edited by cericd; 07-26-2015 at 12:07 AM. Reason: Spelling |

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
I posted a pic of my truck earlier (page 2 of this thread, mid April), and wrote about the plans for it. Now it's looking a bit different, before pic inset here.
I guess this is somewhere between a real patina and a fauxtina job. I just sanded off the gray paintjob as well as I could, washed the rubber seals with thinners, gave the rusty hood a light once over with a DA sander and topped it all off with a light coat of flat clear. The clear is still semi wet in this pic, it's getting matter still when completely dry. High gloss black wheels with new rubber and chrome acorn nuts make the truck look maintained. |

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks v2.0
I got this in 2006, covered up the patina, but it came back. (Is that why it's called Rustoleum?) It sat for 4 years, my sister needed a vehicle, so she's been driving it until recently it wouldn't start, and sounds like a U joint is also going out. I'm going to restore it some day, honest.
