Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
So I've decided I'm taking this truck to a father's day car show come hell or high water. The jam session is on! Had my better half help get the bed wood in place. and test fit the grill

The white grille and blue truck is a perfect combo

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
SO learned a few lessons from the headlight install:
New parts suck Don't have new parts powdercoated assuming they will fit J.W SPeaker lights are expensive. I struggled for 2 days with the lights. I did have to open up the holes in the back buckets for them, but the main issue was with the adjusting bucket itself. The tabs on the bucket that "align" the headlight in just didnt fit no matter what I did. Obviously made worse is the fact that the new LED bulbs are shaped a little different than the factory halogens. Took my old grill apart to get the factory buckets, chopped the backs off them, sandblasted, painted and everything fits perfect. :shrugs: |

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
5 days till car show. still have never driven the truck.
had to remove the transmission to fix an oil leak. When I put the engine together I tightened the rear cover first, then bolted the oil pan up. The rear cover hung down past the mating surface of the pan, a la leak city. Rookie move. Problem: occasionally when moving the truck around the shop the torque converter would " lock" and either stall the engine or worse, try to drive through the brakes and into whatever it was that was in front of me. since the trans was out I took it back to the builder and had him add a different valve in the pump. I guess its a common issue with 4l80e's and big billet converters. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sox-34200-14k SO per usual the race is on. |

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
At this point I was going to throw in the towel. Not only was my trans at the shop, but I had some major issues at the carwash that ate up 3 days and 3 late, late nights.
My 75 year old car guy neighbor who Invited me to the car show came to the shop with: random stainless bolts a bucket of detailing supplies gatorade and beef jerky He says " I've got nothing better to do and you seem like you need the help" .......Damn, I hope I'm a cool old guy one day!!!! Well I can't back out now! Got the bed all snug and even did front and rear bumpers!! |

Well, Got the trans back and installed.
(Language warning) I'm sure the neighbors loved the first 3 miles put in on the truck after the full resto... https://youtu.be/GZLx3ZKFq0g |

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
I will likely have to duplicate your battery mount. My turbo et al is totally in the way of everything.
Any thoughts or recommendations if you were to do it again?

as far as the battery mount, so far so good. Obviously it's a summer cruiser only so not worried about cables and stuff getting trashed. probably worst scenario is if It ever needed to be jump started I would be on my hands and knees....but so what? |

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
Not to highjack but here is what I did so I dont have to crawl under my truck. It will be mounted under my raised bed floor so I can access it by opening my tailgate. The posts were a few bucks off Amazon.

Beyond that, the worst thing is having to lie on the ground if I wanted to help jump-start someone. Easy enough on a dry day.... Not so when it's wet or worse. My 64 will also have the battery under the bed floor but I'm making access via the floor a priority as I do the floor. There's also the remote terminal pods that can be used as well but I'm going to do my best @ keeping things simple w/what's there as my first option.

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
Ok, now i really like this. What is this called and where did you get this, or did you make this? I have a battery mount under the cab and would like to have a good Jump point if i ever need it.

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
Ok so i did some research and found these, looking for remote Batter jump start and found them. I like this idea and will be "Borrowing it" lol. I really like this layout and will do something like this but i am also looking at installing the (positive) jump start cable end into a formed piece of metal (Positive) then mount that to the truck BUT i am looking at mounting it with insulating rubber bushings to separate it as must as possible from shorting out. We all know what fun could be had if the positive shorts out.....

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
I made mine but Hart Fab on here makes something similar:
https://hart-fab.com/collections/fro...ination-pocket Here is what I got off Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Fastronix-Pre...NsaWNrPXRydWU= Or you can get it premade (though I am sure you can make it yourself): https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Charg...s%2C253&sr=8-4

Re: Eric's 1966 Turbo 6.0 build
Have you gentlemen considered Anderson connectors?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AODOOR-Conn...508347&sr=8-21 As Woody's fuel tank is now in the rear, and I plan on relocating the battery to behind the passenger rear wheel, I have purchased a set of these plugs to put into the fuel filler to jump start/trickle charge the battery without having to get under my truck. Used these a lot in my motorsport career as they have the added advantage of not having any 'hot' exposed terminals. Seem slightly safer than the units mentioned above PLUS race car. P.
