Here is a picture of my daughters little peddle car that my dad gave her for the big #3 birthday... She said her paint is better than mine!

Gets good gas mileage anyway...

Love the attention to detail that you are giving your build. Sweet job on the paint.

Thanks! I'm glad to be done with the paint for the most part. I did start putting the doors back together today and painted a few small items. I had to rob these brackets from another truck. Blasted and painted them yesterday.

Thanks Kevin! Nice talking to you and man I cannot wait to get that column.
I've been working on a few things here the past few days. Got the new 4l60 out of the box. Installed the converter and got it hooked to the fastburn. Trying to detail the engine some. The motor was unboxed in 2008 and dropped in the truck and just sat there never fired even once. Setting that aside now and try to finish a few things so I can get the chassis together before I set the cab back on.

I did order my American harness last night... cha ching another 500 gone.

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

Got the engine detailed and ready... Nice and easy to drop it in with nothing on yet. Started the Fat Man coating in the cab and working on everything else. Sometimes I don't know what to do next or which way to go...

The grill was a mess I stripped it with oven cleaner and started sanding it this afternoon. The pic shows it after 600 wet paper and a quick rinse.
Is the area around the headlight supposed to be black or not?? I don't know and some are and some I see are not. I guess I will try and finish the grill up tomorrow with some 1200 and the buffer.

If you have a good pic that I could go by that would be a big help. When I got the truck it had been painted around the bezels and along the outer edge which I know is not correct.

Thanks!

Johnny, Thanks for the pic... taping that area off will let me off the hook on some of the polishing...

Thanks!

I have been working or restoring the outer grill for two days and I'm not totally happy with it yet. I shot it with oven cleaner and followed with sanding to get the aluminum back in shape. There where several dents and dings that worked out pretty well. Not sure what process some of you have gone through but I wet sanded up to 2000 and buffed it with a cotton wheel on a 4 inch air polisher. I used amsoil brand metal polish... it did okay nothing special. I then taped it and shot the black with SEM rattle can emamal. I really want to keep the GM outer so maybe some more polishing is in order.

Yeah yours looks good... I may try some rouge again today. We have several different types, brown, green some that looks black and then the white that is actually laying on the bench in the picture. It does come out pretty nice but like you said it's a pita to say the least. I guess trying to take a 40 year old part and make it look new is gonna take some more elbow action.

I thought about maybe trying some of the cloth wadding polish that ibiz has for aluminum. I know it works great on clean aluminum.

Gonna grind a few rivitz this morning See if I can get the rear ECE stuff installed. Might wait until I have some "qualified" help before I tackle the front later this week.

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

The rear springs, track bar and shocks are in!!! I installed the crossmember I got from GMCpauls today. Worked out nice...

What do you guys do about the brake cables on the crossmember? Its going to rub like crazy. I thought about wraping it with 3/8 fuel line maybe??? Just to keep it from wearing the cable down and rubbing all the paint off. Any suggestions please.

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

I just installed the same trans x-member and realized the E-brake cables will need to be moved a little bit. I haven't had time to look at it since last weekend. I'll let you know if I figure something out before you.

Truck looks great !

I worked on moving the hanger up a little then wrapped the cable where it can come in contact with the memeber. Not really sure if that's okay yet. Let me know what you decide to do.

OC thanks man! Everytime i see yours I think I should have gone all black! Your wheels are Coys correct???
