Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well got some parts for my motor in today, opening up the boxes was just like christmas morning. Brodix IK180 heads, Lunati 60103 cam, Comp Roller Rockers, Comp Hardened Pushrods, Arp Head bolts and Intake bolts and Fel-pro gaskets Can't wait to get all this installed on my motor but probably won't be until I get the cab done and in primer.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well i sent back all the motor parts I purchased for my truck a couple weeks ago. I talked myself into sending everything back cause I know I need a lot of parts for this restoration so the money is better spent elsewhere at this time. Plus no matter what I do to my small block I want a Big Block anyway

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well its a good thing I sent back all those sbc parts to Jegs. This weekend I picked up a low mile 454 bored .030 over. I got it for $880.00 Can't wait to clean it up and get it painted and in the frame.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thankyou I'm hoping I can get the big block cleaned up and painted and in my frame in the next couple of weeks. Then I can put my sbc up for sale. I'm excited I can't wait to fire it.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thankyou I have been wanting a big block and the opportunity presented itself, so I didn't even hesitate. It is running about 10:1 compression with .250 dome pistons and peanut port heads. I know they are not the best heads but should be a torque monster. The cam specs are unknown as the guy couldn't remember what size it was, all he could say was big. He did however give me a brand new Comp Cams Magnum 280H to go with it incase the cam was a little to big for me.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I Cleaned up and painted my Big Block yesterday. Next I will mount up my carb, distributor, spark plugs wires, starter, flexplate and water pump. Then I'll get this beast started.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thanks Al, it's been a bit of a struggle at times but I keep plugging away at it. I'm hoping to have it done in the next year or so. I plan on bagging this truck eventually but probably won't be until after the truck is finished and the funds allow me to do it.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thank you, I love big blocks too, I had to have another one. I couldn't just settle with the small block. I have loved those valve covers from the first time I saw them and finally had the chance to get them. They are the Summit brand knockoffs but you can't tell the difference from the GM. They look great.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
The only thing I can notice is the casting looks to be a little smoother on yours, these valve covers are awesome looking though. Wish I had your motor in my truck lol. Maybe one day

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
trust me you dont , it was one headache after another , mixing old school big block running hot motor here in humid hot south florida with new technology , but at the end yes , all worth it

I would take the headaches to get the end result lol, besides it seems this build has been nothing but headaches at times
