I haven't posted in awhile cause I haven't made much progress. The left cab corner didn't go too well. I had to get another and start again. I don't know what I did wrong. The right cab corner went great. I used 2 to make one work as you can see in the pix. I am making progress, but you can't see it much change in the pix. I'm driving my self crazy on the door gaps. I want them to look great. Since I am a body man and if people know that they will pick it too death. That's when I say where is yours.

I'm open to suggestions on closing the gap on the top of the A post to door. I removed the the gutter for a cleaner look. I've got a couple of ideas, but will leave the floor open for discussion. The gap doesn't look too bad in the pix, but the gap gets progressively worse closer you get to the roof.

I'm kind of burnt out on the cab so I decided to work some on the frame. I have to repair where someone hacked the frame rail for clearance. I cut a piece out of the donor 72 frame. I can't believe how much thinner it is on the top flange. The 72 piece doesn't look like it has been cut on any. I believe it will be a good repair. The hackers cut into the engine mount holes. I could doctor it up. but for some reason I think this is best.

I'm going to order a brake line kit for a 72 since I'm using everything from the 72. The rear crossmember that the brake line attaches to has a cut out for the line to pass thru. I'm going to modify the 65 frame to match the 72.

Work in progress on my 65 daily driver. similar problems on donor door gaps . am welding tig welding rod of different sizes on edge of door- to close gap to anal specifications that i'm using. these trucks were just utility vehicles when build to the +/- 1/4" standard you know.
Truck is looking good tho. Remember its only gone look right to you if you know you built it right. Keep It Up!

I agree with jwart on gm's build standards..., 5567's were even worse to get the gaps right.
either what jwartsaid, weld rod to the edge of the door, or slice into the edge about 1/4 inch in, move the edge to where you want it , and fill the gap.
An old bodyman that I work with seems to perfer the second method.

I got the frame butchery repaired tonight. I think it turn out really well. Sdailey was impressed. I don't get much time to work on the project, but every step that I get done gets me one step closer.

I don't know why I decided to do this mod cause I don't have the time to get a normal restoration done, but I think it is cool looking and it will be first attempt at customizing. I went and got this dash today and got it stripped down.

Thanks Chief. I think it will look awesome if I do it right. I still haven't seen one or anything else with this style of dash grafted into it. I've heard of it being done.

Thanks Joe. It looks like a knee knocker cab has more of a dash area to work with. The 65 is about 8.5" deep. The impala speedo beazel is about 9" deep. I'm going to have to make the dash a little deeper from the windshield. That shouldn't cause any problems.

you will just see a little bit of the dash side when the doors are open.
you might be able to flow part of it on the door panel itself.. kinda like this one....

Hey!! I did somethings done today. I got my front fenders and core support test fitted today. Everything bolted right up. I'm very pleased with how everything fits.
