Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
from post 139 " but the speedometer is a different story. The 4L60e uses an electric speedo when these old trucks use a mechanical one. It's ok I'll just use my gps for speed when traveling"
Dakota digital makes a elec to cable conversion box so you can keep your stock speedo....I used one in my 81 and it works great...a little spendy but im happy.... http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd886.htm

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Electric fan is in place and it works awesome. I also fabricated the top radiator surround piece that fills the gap between the core support top rail and the radiator top tank. Pictures are kind of terrible.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Added a check engine light just in case something is wrong the computer can let me know. I used the factory over speed lamp location for the MIL (check engine light). I just got a pigtail for a 194 bulb at O’Reilys. Hook the brown wire to the ignition lug on the back of the tach (pink wire). Hooked the black to the computer red connector pin 46 which is the MIL control. Works perfect. And I have a clean bill of health I guess because the light turns off as soon as the engine fires up

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to add videos so here the Noob tube link.
https://youtu.be/vj0_fLe17LM Electric fan drowns out the sound of the engine idle. I’m impressed it runs ice cold even in 105 deg Texas heat.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
During my little excursion I realized how annoyed I get driving around without a speedometer. Sure I could use the GPS app on my phone and it works great but it’s not the same when the speedometer needle continues to rest on 0. After lots of research I figured I would modify a Late model speedometer to accommodate my needs. The newer they are the more complex they are and they usually have a digital odometer. I’m trying to retain as much of the original look as I can so I found a speedometer out of a 92-93 ish G series Van which is electric and has an analog odometer

This speedometer only needs three connections 1. Ground 2. Ignition 12v 3. SS (speed sensor)

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
To the OP, I've been following in your footsteps and working on a cluster for my ls swap. Did you think about using the little circuit board that went the speedometer/odometer? I'm wondering if it would make for easier calibration. If it's needed at all. Or is it easier to to just handle everything in hptuners?

That’s just is I think if you slow the 4K pulse down to correct the speed I think the odometer will be slower. I’m still kinda playing with it at this point. I’m about halfway there. I will keep you peeps updated if I have a scientific breakthrough

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
So my radio has been sent to R&B Vintage radio for an AM/FM conversion you can see their work here:
https://www.randbvintageautoradio.com/video-demos.html I opted to get the works which consist of AM/FM, Aux, USB, Bluetooth, voice ID, and voice command. It will look completely stock and it will use the factory knobs and am dial. I made a little post about it a while back and one of our subscribers Boat installed one in his 63. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=681657

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
That's a nice looking seat (once they aligned the houndstooth).
I'm about ready to redo my seat and was wondering if you got that done locally to Austin / Cedar Park, or if you ordered it from somewhere. The rest of your truck progress looks great!

Seat looks good.
Did you ever finish your speedometer? Was wondering if you have it all figured out and the odometer reading correctly. How does it look?

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Speedometer ended up on the back burner. Hope one day I will pick it up again. The only issue I had with it was calibration. To be continued one day.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
So I imagined that you all have figured out that I was doing a cam swap because of the photo in my recent post. It is a Texas speed Stage 2 truck cam and it’s advertised with a duration of 212/218 @50 and .600 lift in both intake and exhaust. It’s a mild street cam that is compatible with the stock torque converter in my 4L60e transmission. By the time you read these next few posts it would have been running more for about 2 or 3 days. I’m sorting out the tune and dialing in that AFR

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
I lapped the valves and cleaned up the heads. I installed a Comp Cams rocker arm trunion upgrade, new valve seals and PAC 1219 valve springs good for .625 lift. New LS2 timing chain is stronger than the ones used on truck engines
