The hubcaps needed a little TLC--this is tedious and time-consuming, but rewarding work. These are the stainless caps--not going for a full mirror polish--just knocking the dents out and getting them back to 'factory' look. I used my favorite satin-black-in-a-can, VHT epoxy, and Rustoleum Sail Blue. The black is a little too shiny and the blue a little too bright, but I think it'll do

Thanks everyone!

I used a body hammer set, but instead of a dolly, I used a piece of 4x4 timber. Go slow, work the dent out from behind, leaving it a little proud. Then you can wet sand it smooth, graduating sandpaper grit to your desired level of polish. These are stainless, so I could use this process--can't sand chrome. They aren't perfect, but they look pretty good for the amount of time I have in them. Like anything, perfection takes time...

Bummer to hear about the cam - If you stick another flat tappet in it I'd suggest getting a zinc additive from Summit or wherever and adding it to the oil at every change.
Modern oil is short on zinc content which causes these kinds of issues with flat tappet stuff.

Edit - another thing to do is avoid idling for extended periods. Low engine speeds reduce the rate of rotation of the lifters.

Not certain on the cam, haven't had a chance to dig in and investigate. I do know that it was getting ZERO oil to the rockers on both banks, but holding 60psi. I haven't been able to find anything that would cause this. It was making plenty of racket, too...

If it were only that easy--I just don't have time to fool with it. I ordered a GM crate for it today along with a new HEI. I'll slap on a rebuilt carb and call it good. Normally, this would be an opportunity for an upgrade, but I have other more pressing priorities.

I got a 'new' to me grill from a local member and stuck it in last night. No more gapped-tooth smile
