Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

My Goldilocks was very original before it was taken apart. From what I can tell it was repainted once many years ago but other than that there were no modifications. Still had the original wood in the bed, the original seat in very good shape, all of the original hub caps, original 250/3 speed, original AM radio, and the nicest aluminum grill I've ever seen! Sure would have been nice to have found it back when it was still together!

That green longbed above is awesome! What's up with the grill, is that a shadow or is the mesh painted black? I like that look whatever it is...

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Found some grease pencil markings on the firewall of the 61. Have a couple more to take also. Also found some on the rear bumper brackets

It's just a PR picture to call attention to the springs & A-arms as well the frame being light blue instead of black....Vernski

Found this GM parts number stamped on a 61 SB fleetside driver side bumper bracket. Never seen the GM part # displayed before.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Hi all,

Just joined the site and found this thread. Love the original trucks! Thought I'd show you my 65. Inherited this from my wife's uncle, it's only had a bath for the pics. He was a mechanic, and this was his shop truck. Pulled this out of his garage which had been closed down for years, last inspection in the window shows 1973. Low 70's showing on the clock.

About the firewall color: Atlanta built trucks had fawn colored firewalls. That black/white 1965 Custom Cab is one I built back in 2000. I've since owned another 1965 Custom cab that also had the fawn firewall. My current '66 project is a Baltimore built unit and firewall is body color. Mike, do you have any factory literature showing that the 327's were green? I know they were and still have my original green valve covers with the "High Torque 327" decal. But I'm sure I'll have a hard time trying to convince people at shows that the motor is supposed to be green. When I was showing my '65, people used to tell me that I did a great job on the restoration, but the 283 was supposed to be orange, not gray!

The 3 66 LWBs i had, have had the body color firewalls. One is from St Louis and 2 from Flint. One from Flint had a green 327. Other 2 had 6xrs.

Hello, and glad you came by. Stick around, we need ya!
I love to see a good basic truck like yours, still looking like a basic truck. The stock configured jobs are greatly outnumbered on this site, so it's cool to see another one make it to the board. Personally, I'm finding the plain-janers more and more attractive lately. There is something about the absolute total absence of bling that makes them beyond cool. Anyway, post up some more pics of the rest of the truck, we'd love to see 'um.

First let me say I love the truck in your avatar! I can see the stock trucks are in the minority here, and I really like the 60-66 models all dolled up with chrome. But for me and this truck I'm gonna resist the urge and leave it plain. Seeing one like yours reinforces that notion for me.

Sorry, I really don't have many more pics other than these.

The first one is my youngest and myself stopping for and ice-cream about a 2 1/2 hr. drive from home, second is the 230 in all its glory, third the dash where you can see how nice the floor mat is, and lastly the seat which is in great shape too.

Plainred65, that is an amazing truck!! Welcome to the forum!! I really like the low option trucks as well since the truck that got me into 64-66 C10s was plain with only heavy duty springs and a 292 as extras. Hope to see more of you and your truck, we need more of your type around here!

They are Daytons, biased belted, I have the slip and forget when they were purchased, maybe late 70's, but they were on it when I pulled it out of hibernation.

The urge is strong, but I think I can hold out!

Wow that is really nice. I see you still have the numerical paint markings on the firewall too. One of the best features of this site is the presence and acceptance of a wide variety of different build styles. There’s everything here from pure stock to bagged customs. The membership pretty much embraces all of them.
