Re: Daverods 52

How about a turbo on an inline six????? you try it out so I can follow along!!!
Dare to be rare!!! I saw a 'yota R-22 in a rat rod the other day with the 5-speed . owner says it is great, good MPG and just screams. The valve cover was aftermarket so it was not too noticeable that it was a rice burner
or a V-6 EFI . try something different.

Re: Daverods 52

Daverod,
I'm only speaking from my experience, but I found the frame horns needed to be whacked about 1/2" forward the farthest forward steering box bolt hole. Anything more interferred with the lower grill splash apron, and it left far too little of the original bumper brackets to use them. You might keep that as the first thing to check once your enginge and cab are mounted. Then again, you may not be running a front bumper. Anyway, that's kinda the downfall to these swaps. You make a change on one part that bites you in some other area. I guess just an FYI.

When I did the S-10 frame on the 47 Studebaker Truck I had. I saved the piece I cut off just incase. The Stude is gone, but I still have the pieces I cut off. I save everything.

Re: Daverods 52

Isn't that always how it goes. I had a decent s10 that I didn't need anymore, took it to the junk yard. Couple months later I wrecked my s10 and needed the parts.

Dave: looking good so far, I was sad to see it go, but glad someone is doing what I wanted to do to it. I'll be tagging along just for fun. Maybe it will inspire me to work on my 69.

Thanks Ryan. Good to see you back at work. Sorry about your truck. It's not really a truck anymore. Just a bunch of parts scatered around my garage and yard . The hood is sitting out in my flower bed. I got all the white paint off it. It's getting some new patina. You need to get back up here. Give me about 5 and I'll take you for a ride. Hopefully sooner.

Re: Daverods 52

It's aways better the second time. It's alittle more than 1/2 about about 3/4. I cut it at 1/2 then put the plate in top. I'm sure it's nothing a BAH can't solve.

Re: Daverods 52

Looks good Dave. Not sure about your welding skills thought, but your grinding skills are top notch.

Funny man. My wife welded it I just did the grinding.Done with your floor yet? Making my own T&G today save about 1k on 180 boards. Guess where the $ going. 4 hrs into it about 1/2 done. Could be one of those days.

Re: Daverods 52

For you Ruff before I grind it. Got my gas hooked up today. Still getting use to it. Not sure how much pressure to use.Doesn't seem to have the same power as the flux. Is a lot cleaner though. Cut out all the parts for my cab mounts. After about the 3rd cutting wheel I was thinking plasma. A couple times when I was welding it would make no sound?

Re: Daverods 52

Nice welds Dave. I had a plasma cutter that would cut 1/2". I loved it, but was expensive to buy the nozzles, and tips. You also need a water trap on it also. The circuit board went out on it that cost like $650. So now I use cutting wheels. In the end it's much cheaper, and cuts cleaner. The plasma Cutter worked best in hard to get at places, and real thick metal. I've been living with out it just fine.

Re: Daverods 52

I'll sell you a plasma. But you got to run 480V 1 or 3 phase! Brand new.

Welds are looking really good. Well the floors are still coming along. I tore my left bicep lifting my new compound miter. I just have one hallway left to do, then put all the baseboards on. I cant find the same ones that were in my house, so I'll have to get new ones. I'll take a pic and text ya it tomorrow!

You really need to start being more active. How do you tear your arms off picking up a chop saw. That sucks though. I hate being hurt. I'm still recoping from a day of snow boarding. Getting old sucks. I've use up all my power for my house. I have a 200 amp servive.

Re: Daverods 52

it was crazy that I tore it. just 30 min before that i was unloading 31 boxes of flooring and had no problem.

If you know anyone looking for a plasma let me know. I need to unload this. It's a Thermal Dynamic 92 series. Never used, but it is 480V 1-3 phase.

I snapped my biceps tendon back in 1985. I'm still suffering from the operation, and how they did it back then.

Listen to the Doc. Take care of yourself. On top of my nerve pain I have a bad rotator cuff. They said I can't move my arm for 2 months after the operation. I can't do that right now. I need to make money.
