Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

I'm sure I'll screw up here and there but I just hate being held captive on not completing a project because paint is unobtainable. So I figure I gotta get some experience by getting some experience!

Good work. That's a lot of surface area! Kind of like painting an aircraft carrier :-)

Do you plan on pulling the bed to spray the back of the cab?

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

I guess it's just the light, but the inside of the doors looked tan. Anyway, I went back and reread, did you decide between ochre and original?

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Not pulling the bed. I masked it so it wouldn't have crappy over spray in there, but masked it a few inches back so I could still get paint in there easily enough.

I'm am doing the original red metallic and white paint.

Here it is this morning. Pretty happy with how it turned out. One of the nice things about the epoxy is it dries glossy so when you sand it it's like a built in guide coat.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

I have started putting filler on. I pretty much applied it everywhere around the truck where it needs it and now going around blocking it all. I'm fairly confident that I should have the filler and blocking done by the end of the week so hopefully another round of epoxy this weekend. Still debating if I want to bother with the 2k or not. Lots of folks that use this epoxy skip the 2k since the epoxy Sands so well. I think I'll base that decision on how it looks after this round of epoxy. If it looks kinda meh, I'll 2k it. If it looks decent, I'll stick with epoxy. With that, color and clear should only be 2-3 weeks away!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

once you get all the primer stages done, it goes pretty fast. the bc/cc stuff flashes pretty quick. i've been using wanda and axis products with good results. unless i'm looking for razor sharp lines, i generally just paint over the epoxy.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Thanks! I plan on using Wanda for my base and southern polyurethane for the clear.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Last week was a total write off as far as getting stuff done. Had something going on every day after work, worked the weekend, and had stuff going on after work on the weekend anyway... So, my goal at this point is to finish up the filler and blocking this week, spray more primer this weekend, block the primer next week, and do paint and clear as soon after that as possible. Still thinking /hoping first or second weekend in October it will be done.
