Another pic. Of course I forgot to take a pic while we were all set up. Just remembered as we were pulling out. Oh well.

Re: post up your camping pics

Annual family men's fishing weekend at Nancy Lake in NW Wisconsin. Blue Bell, the rusty old 87 K20, pulled the 1953 Lone Star boat and my nephews and I slept in the 60s vintage Hetrick tent. That's my Dad's posterior in the pic as he helped me set it up. He did away with sleeping in tents years ago and he and my brother were in his camper trailer.

Re: post up your camping pics

Just got back Saturday night after a 10 day / 1,717 mile trip around AZ and UT. We left home on the 15th and started off at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, AZ then headed up to Utah’s Canyonlands for the rest of the time. Once the rest of the pics and videos get uploaded and I get some time I’ll post up a trip report. The Canyonlands Doll House trail was awesome!

A few shots until the rest are uploaded….

Our little city within the Overland Expo from Friday the 16th through Sunday the 18th.

Monday we headed North to Utah for the rest of the week...

4 other rigs joined for the 4 day off-road journey in and out of the Doll House. The Doll House is remote!

Been tracking your entire run on Spot since you left. Just zooming in on the sat map
had some great views, I can only imagine what some of your latest shots look like. Waiting patiently for the trip report!

Dirty Larry - I notice everyone in you group has popups, is that because the trails are not suitable for small towed travel trailers? We are thinking of getting a vintage canned ham to tow behind the 59 when its done. A lot of my hunting buddies have them with axle mods to get more ground clearance.

Yeah, trailers become very burdensome on most of trails that get you out of the KOA campground. In fact, a few years ago my buddy Bill and I cobbled together an off-road trailer to pull around. We used it on our 2009 and 2010 desert trips and while it was handy to have along with the ability to haul more goods the trailer became an absolute burden on these tight Canyonlands trails as well as mountain trails. We found it no fun to make 3 and 4 point turns on narrow cliffs with pinpoint switchbacks and backing up on a technical trail is practically impossible without winching the trailer on spot. We since sold the trailer and do not miss dealing with it.

Interestingly enough we started our week at the Overland Expo which is like the Sturgis of the overland / backcountry adventure crowd. They had every imaginable off-road camper from 6 digit Earthroamers to any size and shape of roof top tent on display not to mention every imaginable decent off-road camp trailer. There were some outstanding trailers that leave you salivating but the bitter taste of pulling our homemade trailer quickly curbs any envy of those nice little trailers. I’ve also noticed over on Expedition Portal the retention rate of off-road camp trailers is pretty short. People go crazy over them then after a few trips in the wild they learn trailers suck on technical trails and up for sale they go. About 6 years ago I seriously considered a Jayco Baja or the Fleetwood version off-road popup trailers and so glad I did not pull the trigger on one of those.

Here is the trailer we built and pulled for two desert trips. Good riddance! I did like sitting on top of the trailer in the camp chair at night though. Less likely to have a bitting critter encounter during beerthirty!

Re: post up your camping pics

Thanks for the insight. Most likely trailer will be for when the wife is with me hitting campgrounds. I'm still fine with a tent and cot, or even under the stars if its not raining.

It worked great! When the stove top and sink are not in use having the ability to close it and create a large counter top is so handy. It worked flawlessly too. I highly recommend one of these if you ever do an interior remodel.

Re: post up your camping pics

got back from what may be our only vacation this yr. day before we left boss told me we got a big job that will tie us up for a month or so. that bites.
we stayed fairly local, went to a corner of the coquihalla hiway area. took the wife's envoy so we could also go for a day trip down to Tulameen.
made a slight detour to let the dogs out & have a bite

they have signs that say "high mountain road, weather changes suddenly".... it sure does, one minute bright sun, the next, rain

'bout halfway up the "smasher" the rain stopped. 10% grade for 9 or 10 miles. if you have a heavier vehicle, your cooling system has to be top notch
