Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Thanks. I'm on the way back to the house from picking up the etch primer. It looks like it's gonna rain today though. We'll have to see if I can get it sprayed today still

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
If it's the same rain cluster that rolled through here yesterday, yeah you're gonna get wet. If you're working outside, at least try to get that etch primer on the bare metal before it rains, then tarp it up.
See, if the cab was off maybe you could drag it in to the barn/shop/garage and still keep your schedule! |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Lauras mama is giving her a fit about coming down because I'm on vacation and her grandmother isn't around anymore and she's lonely and going out of her mind. So I'm getting drug down to charleston tomorrow and were stating the night and coming back Sunday evening. I just found out about this and was gonna call ya. We'll probably have to do it next weekend unfortunately. Sorry.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Well there is primer and color on the truck and it looks damn good. I'll post some pics when the clear is on it and we unmask it. I'm a happy camper right now

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
So here's some pics. I'm gonna pull the tape in the morning before we leave for charleston for the weekend. I think for another quarter I could've gotten red lol.
here some shots of the bump and shiner Taylor got over her left eye when she fell on the jungle gym at the zoo. The first pic is from Wednesday you can see the bump over her eye. The second pic is from today you can see the bruise above her eye and the greenish shiner she got around her eye. As you can tell it didn't phase her one bit. She's my little trooper. Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
wow!

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Yeah you told me that on page 1 or 2 can't remember lol. But I didn't know that until you told me. I'll have to get up in there and put a piece of metal up there. Tonight I think I'm gonna take firewall airbox apart and clean it up and get it ready for some black paint. I also need to put the new heater core in the other airbox and clean that one too.
There's one run on the dash in the clear right between the ashtray and the glovebox. So I'll wetsand that out but besides that the paint came out so much better than I thought it would |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Thanks Mike. My wife has told me that I have a limited amount of time to put the truck together before I have to buy her another. The plan is to have it done except for the outside paint by two months. That's everything done. Running with the TBI, complete interior including sound deadeaner and new seals, new tires and maybe some H2 hummer wheels if I can find a good deal on some. After two months I'm gonna take the bed off of it and I'm going to spray the complete cab and front end and the bed and then put the bed back on. Then the truck will be done period. LOL. Like I said before it's gonna be a family hauler/work truck. It's just gonna have some class about it too that's all
the only reason I actually stripped it this far to do the jambs, firewall, and dash is because I already had it almost there and I figured might as well make it look right. I just don't want to get carried away with it because it'll never get done and I won't want to use it as a truck. I still can't believe the paint looks like that and we sprayed it my backyard under some trees lol and Joe I think someone told me that before but I can't remember Last edited by Stitch; 07-09-2010 at 06:59 PM. |

Thanks fellas. I always heard that the paint is only as good as the prep. Well my paint looks great and the prep sucked lol

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Anyone can pull a trigger on a paint gun. Not everyone is willing to make their fingers bleed with prep though.
My ashtray already had a run in it, so it still does even after we painted it. Like you, I'm not building a show truck, it'll be worked. I just want it to look good since it'll reflect on my business. |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Yeah my buddy that laid the paint was like 'once you get everything on the dash you'll never see it' and my response was 'like hell, it's in the middle of the dash'.
oh yeah, and I DID spray some of the truck. My buddy is kinda up there in age and has a bad hip so I did the low spots. When we were taping he was saying how the truck was too tall and when he was spraying he was saying it wasn't tall enough lol Last edited by Stitch; 07-09-2010 at 08:35 PM. |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Oh yeah I also have a 1 1/2 din gauge cluster and a factory GM cd player to go in there. And my stupid behind forgot to cut the dash before it got painted. Now I gotta be extra careful when I put the airsaw to it

Chuck, that looks great! I just might have to paint the wife's 69 red and white after seeing how well that looks.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
At least your ashtray will be easy to get back in. I put masking tape all over mine and around the dash while getting it back in today. Is a heckuva fit in there with all the duct work there.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Yep lots of room when there's nothing in the dash lol.
Also I both inner and outer airboxes disassembled tonight and cleaned some before the rain hit. Probably Monday I'll be able to get back on this hot and heavy. I'm gonna try to get the outer airbox and the brake booster/master cylinder and the steering shaft panted up Monday night and installed. Then I can get the ashtray and glove box painted up. Gotta get the dash cut and the cd player mounted up. I also think I'm gonna make some kick panel pods and mount some seperates down there. I'm getting the cab corner speakers from bigblock73. Probably next weekend I'm gonna order up some fatmat and carpet and get it installed so I can start on getting the interior back together. Lots of stuff to do but if I can get the seats covered quickly I can put the interior together in an easy weekend |
