Im hoping they are marked wrong or backwards or something. Im going to try and flip brackets around to see if I can get a different position on the calipers. The new locker has to go in still so its coming apart either way.

aggie: The problem was that the new caliper brackets were not sitting flush with the flange on the axle. The welds on the new brackets werent allowing it to sit flat. So I just took a grinder to the corners of the flange. This pic isnt the greatest but you can see the corner of the flange where I had to grind a little

man, although the 13" rotors look great out back, McGaughys has problem after problem with their kit designed for our trucks... atleast your finding solutions to them... they should give you some money back

Is the bleeder screw at the top most part of the piston bore so that it bleeds out all of the air and nothing gets trapped in the caliper?

I guess you got your other issues from above corrected? What was the problem?

c10

I looked again and remembered at picture of an install done in a magazine, April 2010 issue of Street Trucks (may be Truckin). Anyway there is a picture of the rear end, from the passenger side (so that the front of the truck is to the viewers right), the pinion is at 3 o'clock and the caliper is at about 10 o'clock. I look on line for the pic, but did not find it. The lead photo for the article is a red and white 80's square body...

Hope this helps.

Good find stickelspeed. So it looks like something is wrong with how brackets are mounted c10seconds.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit

Ya good call! Ill get those flopped around and update pics. For some reason I thought the calipers should be mounted on the most forward part of the rotor. Thanks for taking the time to help point me in the right direction. Now that I think of it, did anybody else kit come with directions????

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit

Hey C10,

Did you use the stock hardlines on the rearend housing with this kit, or did you make up new ones?

Thanks,

Ed

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit

Mine's been done for awhile, but I have been very busy with other issues.

L rear is at 2:00, R is 10:00. (Not sure if it's correct but I like the looks)

The whole kit, other than having rear axles turned, was a great fit.

I have not drove mine yet so I can't give any actual feedback.

Pic's in my siggy, only thing I changed from kit was lines.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit

I'm just about ready to get started putting everything back together. I got the rearend back from having the Auburn, gears & bearings/seals installed...cost me $100 this time .

Now I am in the middle of painting the calipers, rotors & CPP m/c. I did the rotor hats & veins and the caliper bridges in a high temp gloss black, and the caliper bodies in a high temp cast grey. The rearend housing and '95 4x4 Tahoe rear leafs are painted with PPG gloss black Akyln Enamel Chassis paint. I'm hoping to get the rearend ready and possibly put under the Blazer this weekend.

Quick pic of some parts

I have had ZERO problems with this kit. I'm very happy with it actually. I'm just wanting "the cool" calipers

Contact McGaugys to see what the calipers are off of. I'm planning on picking these up this month, just trying to see who has the best price.

Take a look in the vendors Marketplace. I know Nate Porter is a McGaughys distributor.

Both viable options, but no e-brake AND they aren't 13" disc.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit

So all in all would you guys reccomend this kit both front and rear? Seems like the front is a breeze to install, but seems like a lot of you guys are having problems with the rear.

I definetly want to go big brakes on my 86 but wondering if I should look at other options
