Re: New member with a 1960

I can't wait to see how these turn out. How do they deal with the notch in the window opening where the vent window post used to go?

Re: New member with a 1960

We are making a little bit of progress, the machine work is finished, the engine should be together in the next 2 weeks, transmission is finished... Now if we can get the patch panels finished up it will be time to do some mockup!

Re: New member with a 1960

I never realized how small the cab is on these trucks, being 6'4 this is going to be a challenge, I am going to have to order another steering wheel with less offset, and I am considering cutting the "roll" out from under the rear window...

Re: New member with a 1960

The info is around but it seems we'll have to dig it up...unfortunately T-Bar trucks have different frames than the later trucks that do have mounts made for them. Our frames are narrower and have shorter C channels. In some cases like my GMC the frame is boxed and possibly thicker.

Some have gotten away with notching the frame with later model mounts and other have simply had to spacer the top of the mounts. I'm currently having issues with my POL mounts, but when I get it figured out, I'll post what I come up with.

There doesn't seem to be a "bolt on" solution.

Header clearance is another issue and since I'm not building a race truck the long tube and big diameter headers don't interest me. That might be the case for your motor though. Lookin damn fine BTW.

Re: New member with a 1960

The closest fitting factory engine mount brackets for the '60-'62 frames are the '67-'72 small block engine mount brackets. Although some say they had to add a .250" spacer on top of the frame. Then you will need the '63-'72 engine mounts and an adapter plate for the LSx engine. Other than those, I do not know of any off the shelf engine mount solutions. Depending on just what you are wanting, the engine mounts might just have to be custom fabricated.

This is one of the reasons I don't care for the '60-'62 frames.

Re: New member with a 1960

I really like POR-15 but wasn't happy with the firewall finish using POR-15, I took it down to the metal, primed it, sanded and shot it with a Jet black acrylic enamel. I'm much happier, once it cures I will wet sand and buff it out.
My 65 Olds project is about to come to a close, so its full steam ahead on the Apache....

We ended up modifying the mounts sent by CPP, I didn't like how their mount kit had the engine sitting, it was way to high for my taste! So we did use them just made some adjustments and lowered the engine down a bit!

Re: New member with a 1960

The front windshield and wheel tubs came in today, I ordered Mobsteel (Detroit steel) wheels today, 20x11 & 20x8 and tires Nitto 245/40/20 & 315/35/20.
The engine has been mocked up and will be in place soon! We are having to cut and modify the Torsion bar cross member for clearance of the 4L80E but its all working out nicely!
