Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

I have finally figured out what this oddball truck is that was included in the photo sets I received:

Turns out, the answer was buried here on the board all along in this thread. It's a Brazilian spec C10!

Apparently, Chevrolet commissioned a Brazilian company to assemble the trucks for them in South America, and they used many carry over parts from previous generations of pickups. The year ranges for the specific body styles were also different. This site details the specs for the South American C10s by year.

The Jimmy that should have been... So I built a Chevy version of the SS C/10 that the General didn't... She sports an actual 1969 L34 396 SS motor with some upgrades that push the stock 350 HP to about 425 Pony's.

Never any concepts on having a sunken spare tire and having the spare on the passenger side for safety.

This is incredible, and it feeds the love for these trucks even more. We are a lucky bunch of guys to be associated with these great machines.

Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

Very interesting, many thanks to Hewitt and all the comments, just amazing. My '71 C10 came out of Flint.

On the early designs not used, I am quite sure if any had made the final cut, you grow up with them, and then any other designs (specifically the current ones) would have been deemed ugly. But . . . I sure am glad GM chose the current design

This is one of my favorite threads- bringing up for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Wish GM’s current design team would review this thread

Those front fenders would have been made specifically for those trucks. It's a 69-72 stamping w/o a side marker whole. Something GM never made for the US trucks

Being sunken on either side would be a safer arrangement than sticking up over the rail. But having the spare on the driver side is the safest option. On the driver side to the front it is out of your periphery behind you where you rely on your exterior mirror, which it doesn't block. On the passenger side it obstructs the view to your extreme right, even in your interior mirror

Rare photo, courtesy maverickmk. Note a 3/4 ton hubcap on this Blazer. Never seen a 6 lug 16.5" wheel that accepts a 12" hubcap.

I'm happy GM chose against the 72 "next generation" model, and the 71 grille. Very interesting. Excellent thread, thanks for sharing.

Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

Since I'm sort of a designer, this was very interesting to me. Good thing many of those ideas didn't make production! I like the slender side lights.
The Squarebody mockups look so much like what Dodge did, wonder if they had a spy?

Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

Noticed in the proposed dash pic (January 69) that the door panels look like 72 style. Always wondered why they did the one year panels (72) knowing 73 was a new truck. Maybe trying to introduce some plastic into the interior in a effort to transition to the mostly plastic 73 interior?

Wow. I sure am glad the dash never ended up looking like that. It looks like a botched ford

Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

I posted a thread when I had about 40 origional pre production pictures. I sold them to a board member many years ago. They are proably posted on an old hosting site but I can't remember what it was. I looked through my old posts but it must have been from before the board change over in 2001.

Re: 67-72 Development/Concept Photos Galore!

Just saw this for the first time today....Very interesting to say the least.

I noticed some of the photo's had some clay residue on the ground which I believe is how they used to shape some of the panels to get the effect/design they were after.

And in todays world the whole shebang is computer generated.
