Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Since this thread popped up and I saw my pics, I realized that my truck doesn't have the "Longhorn" scripts on the bed. Was this the case for '70, or were they perhaps scraped during a repaint? It has been repainted at least once that I know of. The white below the lower belt molding got painted orange, which I will eventually put back to original. The SPID says White/Hugger Orange/White. I like that look better.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

70 would have had them for sure. My old 70 had them and they eve had 2 nubs for the emblem clips. But my 72 were just stick on type.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Thanks! It was painted at least 20 years ago, and my FIL died 7 years ago, so I guess I'll never know what happened. Maybe I'll buy some '72 stick-ons, if they look the same. I also want to go back to an original grill. I don't like the worked-over '72 grill.

Have you looked up inside the bedsides back there - might be able to see where the mounting holes were filled.

Ah! Hello - earth to jocko... I never even knew there were stick on ones from the factory, thought they were all pin type, stick ons aftermarket. Was it a year thing? Learn something new every day. Wonder how consistent the stick on one's locations were over time?

On the Purple Longhorn I bought it in 2014 and was 3rd owner. First owner had it from new until 1998 and sold it the fellow I bought it from in 2014. I don't know if the Longhorn scripts fell off or were stolen.

LMC, and alot of others have them. You might check with some of the board vendors here to see if they can get you a good price on them.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Time for an update. Tossed the old junk camper shell, took the opportunity to clean up the roof and repaint it. Then, the new camper shell! It's tall enough now that my wife (5'-5" tall) can stand up in it. We're going camping this weekend. We'll get an idea how much that takes the fuel mileage down.

Here is my recently purchased 70 GMC Sierra Grande, 402, 4 spd. (longhorn).
It has original paint, and the original wood bed is exceptionally nice. It came from southern Colorado.

Thanks! I have two saddle tanks at 15 or 16 gallons each, so I can make some distance before I have to buy gas.
