Busterwivell:

Better make sure all ancillary items that will touch that motor are new or flushed (radiator). If anything goes wrong they will look at that very closely...

It wouldn't be bad to video tape the beak in procedure so that you can prove you did it right....

After this episode I am a firm believer in a motor dyno before install....especially if its close to you....

Mike, very nice! My 502 showed up early, now I've got to find time to fit it. Which engine mounts and position are you using? It looks good set back like that. I am hoping to use the inline six mounts that the 350 is on.

Girlfriend just bought a steel model B Ford tudor and wants half the garage to keep it in. Women Going to make it tight putting the 502 in with that in the way.

I used the original BB mounts complete...got them from pickmup in Oly, Wa. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Closure...

Okay I think it's time to wrap this up. I have driven my truck a few times now since getting it back. It's completely different. I don't know how to describe it but, it just seems like it is more refined. The ZZ502 out of the crate, in comparison seemed to fight itself, didn't seem to have the throttle response that this version does. It sounds different too.

Would I do this exact same thing again? No. but I got an education and know things I didn't before and hopefully this thread will help others too.

I do have to give kudos to Tom Sallee at Sallee Chevrolet. He stepped up to the plate when in fact he didn't have to and took care of the problem. I would have liked this to occur earlier but nonetheless, I ended up with a cooler motor. They are a very knowledgeable group and can build anything for you (and dyno it)!

I think this thread about covers any questions someone may have but if anyone has any....feel free to ask.

Just an FYI....someone emailed me regarding my 502 issues offline. After sending a few emails back and forth, I got the final one today.....good info...

"It turns out my problem of a high RPM studder was with the lifters and was
caused by oil foam. I have my ZZ502 in a 55 Chevy which required changing
oil pans to a deep sump Moroso pan. The stock windage tray that came with
the motor would not work so I went ahead and assembled it without a windage
tray. Tell your friends, DON"T DO THIS, as the oil will foam causing the
hydraulic rollers to collapse at high RPM's and will run you nuts trying to
figure out the problem. I changed ignitions, carburetors, plugs, wires, you
name it all with no help. Finally I called Crane Cams who makes the cam for
GM and talked to one of the tech guys. He said, "oh yeah, thats oil foam
causing your problem", and I'm like DAMN! why didn't I talk to you first.
So I fabricated a new windage tray and the problem seems to be solved.
Anyway, thanks for responding and I'll make sure my lifter valley splash
guard is firmly in place."

Mike get that puney air filer off of that motor fast, its not letting it breath you need at least a 14x5!!!! It's suckin through a straw instead of drinking out of the glass, if you know what I mean. Man that truck is awsome, next you need a drivetrain, doubt it'll stand up long under all of those 663hp and 625ft lbs
