Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Looking good. I feel your pain with the aftermarket panels. they are usually way off. Keep hammering away.....no pun intended.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Very nice work!
In Canada and starting to same thing on a 66 SWB Step. Now one question I have is since you're in this full swing. If you take a straight edge across the back of your cab under the window, is it flat or caved in a bit at about the same line as where the top of the rear bed panel would line up? Either my imagination or mine is bent in a bit unless they came that way from factory. Thanx...Mike |

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
I'd say it's flat. I snapped a pic this morning on my way out the door but it's not a very good pic.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Thanks Rob,
Looks like I'm pulling the inside panel to start straightening out the rear now. Oh well...at least there's near "0" rust on this TX Army Truck. When I get some shots together, I'll start my post too. Good work on yours.....keep it up. Thanks man! mike |

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
No, no updates. Sorry. I was hoping to have the cab on this spring but didn't get finished with the eyebrow and lower support rust. I've spent all summer working house projects. Had to replace windows, build a back deck. And also put a little work in the side garage. Hopefully here in a month I'll get back on it!
Thanks

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Unfortunately not. I've actually been rehabbing the garage and working on the house. I do need to post up some more pics though. I just haven't touched the truck since last April. I've been wanting to get a rotisserie set up for the cab to help with some of the body work.

Cab Support Brackets
I'll spare you all my sob story of working on other stuff and just get into it.
Not much since the last post. I flipped the cab over on it's back to get better access to the lower and top sides. I ordered replacement cab support brackets for each corner, however they won't be here for a week or so. In the mean time I took the support off the front RHS. It might look like the bracket isn't in that bad of shape, but I put a lot of weld into it at the outer end. I just decided to pull it.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
I did my right side also on my 62. I didn't remove my cab because I didn't have but the right rocker and front cab mount to repair. Looking back I wish I would have. I just didn't have the room. I lifted the cab and cut out all the spot welds. At that time I didn't have a spot weld cutter and it was a B*&#$to remove with a regular drill bit. Lucky enough I have a good air hammer. I had a hard time removing the front wedged in the front brace. Being on my back I couldn't get enough space to remove the support. So it took me a little longer with the air hammer but I got it done. I replaced the cab mounts a week later when they came in. Your welds look good and you are coming along great! Here is how I did it.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Hey Structures, Nice to see you back on the truck! Nice job on the cab braces. I done mine the same way with the cab sitting on its back. The front braces were pretty easy. when started on the rear ones, that took some time and were so aggervating. The ones I bought were not made no where near like the origionals. I had to cut them up and change the angle of them just to get them to fit. If your replacing the rear cab braces ill just say good luck. keep up the good work!!

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
thanks guys. Chevelle, I broke the cardinal rule of cutting before I had the part in my hand! As you pointed out the fronts look pretty straight forward, the backs... I'm still thinking if i should splice. I'm not touching the backs until I get the parts. Should be next week though.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
Thats what I did on the rear supports on mine. They were in good shape except near the inner rockers, I only cut about 4 inchs and spiced them together, I had my cab corner cut off so it was a little easier to weld them. Good Luck, I have some pics in my thread if you want to check how I did mine.

Re: Structures 65 Chevy C10
At first you had me excited to start replacing panels, but now I'm afraid I'll find more than I can deal with. You're doing a good job, though, keep it up
