almost done!!!!......with the rust
Yep, I have 1 more spot in the windshield channel to fix. After that I will have to bring out the bloodhound to search for any rust I have missed. After that if all is well the rust will have been beaten. Then I will move on to finishing smoothing the firewall.

Hey Rob. I'm trying to get this done by Oct. I have a backup in the burb if Jezebel don't make it. How about the "Old Farm Truck"? How's she running after the tune?

Re: Project "Jezebel"

I have been slacking a while uploading pics and providing updates. Lots of progress to talk about.

There was a small rust spot in the Dr. side windshield channel. Not too bad to fix. Just cut the bad area out and form a replacement.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Next was a small patch next to the pass side cab corner. This was a little tricky getting the profile correct but with a little hand work I think it came out pretty good.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Next on to the pass outer rocker. This went fairly well. A few small tweaks here and there. A pie cut here and there and it fits pretty good now.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Next was the Dr. side. The profile of the cab corner did not match the lower door. I had to cut a relief cut and pull the skin out to match the profile of the door. Not too tough, just had to fiddle with it a little to get it to aligned.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Now on to the Dr outer rocker. The lower section where it meets up to the cab corner was a little short. I cut the edge off so I could maintain the profile and added a 1/4" section to fill the gap. Came out looking really good.

Wow, this is great! For my sake, I hope my panels don't take as much work to line up. I'll be screwed

If you want better fitting panels buy from Tri Plus. I had LMC rockers and cab corners on a cab and cut them off. The tri plus ones fit perfect with no modifications. Not all have had that success but pretty much everyone with the LMC panels have had a LOT of work to do...

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Those were Tri-Plus panels.... In all fairness since I had to do so much panel replacement, I cant really blame the fit on Tri-plus.

Wow, like I said, I could only speak to my experience. Every truck was different from the factory and gaps weren't as nice as we make them when restoring these trucks either.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Next I went on to correct the door to rocker gap. As you can see from the first pics it was about a 1/4" gap. Adjusting in the door was not an option because it would cause the crease in the lower part of the door to not align with the crease in the cab corner.

I ended up having to cut the entire rocker in half lengthwise and add a 1/4" patch in between. Here are the pics.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Next I needed to replace the drip rails. After searching for repops it was apparent they were either nonexistent or they were made from inferior material (22ga thin steel). I had tried to patch them earlier and just did not like the idea so I decided to make my own.

I started with a sheet of 18ga I cut a 1 1/2 x 60" slice I cut with the plasma.
Name: 101_0640.JPG
Views: 1445
Size: 16.7 KB

Next I needed to roll 1/8" back on itself to give me the profile I needed to match the original.
Name: 101_0644.JPG
Views: 1443
Size: 12.3 KB

Next came the 90deg edge that directs the water run off along the channel.
Name: 101_0645.JPG
Views: 1442
Size: 19.6 KB

Then I used the stretcher to make the radius around the top and rear of the door .
Name: 101_0649.JPG
Views: 1439
Size: 22.6 KB

Finally all welded in

Re: Project "Jezebel"

wow GREAT work ,I'm having some of the same issues had to put a backer plate in cab corners as they were a bear to get to fit and gap was a little much, and I have about the same amount of gap at back of outer rockers, glad I seen how you fixed this since I was scratching my head about it. once again great work, and this is what is great about this board you can see how others deal with similiar issues.
