What do you have wired to the big black button in the dash?

That is the horn. I had some issues with the horn kit in the steering wheel, so that was the fix for now.

NO leaks this morning, so that was a good start. Mostly worked on cleaning up the shop, but I did organize some of the wiring and all in the engine compartment.

I did run across a situation I need help/advice on. Since I installed the new Speedway Motors HEI distributor yesterday it runs great, but now I have a huge interference issue with the Stereo/Radio. The Stereo/Radio works great until I start the truck and then all I get is engine static, whether it be the radio or playing MP#s thru the thumb drive feature. It did not due this with the stock HEI unit.

Any of you had a similar issue?
Any idea where to start?
Ground issue?


She still drive-able, just with no music but the exhaust at this point.

The ground issue is what I was thinking. Since I know I have issues as is with grounds. I imagine the filter for RFI is built into the stock HEI, but not a performance one like the speedway I bought. Time to dig around some more.

Hopefully no more "must do" work on the4 old mule for the next 8 days. I decided to put back my piston shift knob after I got her all cleaned up. Get go to a crazy hot rod show/cruise for a week with a standard knob.

So all prettied up for the start tomorrow. Cloudy today but no rain in sight for the whole time. low 60s to low 80s this week, so super good weather for it.

Started Cruising the Coast today. Great start for the week of hot road and classic cars. Here is a few shots from today.

Mule and I had a blast this week at Cruising the Coast. I put on about 450-500 miles. Temps stayed between 180 and 190 (rarely), even with a very small radiator leak. She ran good. I ditched the big homemade piston shift knob. It was too big and heavy that it would make the linkage rattle a lot. I did pick this little billet piston up.

Today I pulled the radiator and took it to a radiator shop. I could not see any leak spots, so getting it tested by them and fixed (I hope).

Since I was there and the temps will be getting cooler, I decide to pull the heater apart and check the heater core. The core itself flushed well in both directions, but was initially very rusty/muddy looking when I flushed it. I think I also figure out why it barely heated up. Looks like someone put in a standard heater core instead of the deluxe model (which should be around 9.5" not 7-ish). So most of the cold air went right past the heater core into the cab. I'll clean everything up while I wait on the new core and seals.

Next step is some more wiring (redo all the grounds) and change the 3.73 rear to a 3.07.

I am also getting the T350 ready in case I get tire of shifting in the near future.

Finally got the parts in for the 64 and been working on bunch of little details.

I replaced my flew fan with a nice 7-blade clutch fan. Hopefully I will cool a bit better and maybe even free up some HP for the ole girl

I also worked on cleaning and painting the heater box to get ready for the proper heater core.

Since it is out of the way at the moment, I am also working on cleaning up some wiring and grounds. (no pictures, No real excitement, just figured out how to use the factory harness wires, to work the new electronic gauges, least I hope I did.

By the way, I think I know the answer, but is this wire grate factory (last Picture) in the heater box or did someone have a good idea?

Yeah, mine only had the standard heater core also.
Where'd you end up ordering the deluxe core from?

Still running grounds and cleaning up more wiring. Got side tracked picking up a new DD. 07 Silverado Class W/T to replace my 94. Hopefully I'll find a good home for Carlos after the holiday.

64 just sitting in her house waiting for me to finish up my other choirs and get back on it.

Well finally got some time to finish up most of the wiring and the heater box redo. I think the heat should work now as you can see the difference of the core that was in the truck and the proper deluxe heater one.

Everything was cleaned and repainted. I decided to add an extra ground for the fan motor. I am told they are temperamental without a good solid ground. Everything back in place. I even decided to add the factory sticker.

Added a new tach (just like the looks of this one better than the old Summit brand.) and some new gauges. Decided since everything was hooked up, I would give her a break in drive. It felt super good to drive the ole girl again. And now I have het, plenty of it. Most of my wiring issues seem to have gotten worked out. I still have a few more things I need to square away with the wiring, but everything seems good so fer.

Now to clean up the shop Its amazing the mess you can make when you say I'll need that when I come back.

Had a good drive with the Mule yesterday, to Baton Rouge and back (bout 270 or so miles). She ran great. Decided today out of boredom to see what she sounds like on video. So here is the mule.

It seems to like to puff a little blueish when it is cold, so someday I will check further into that.

Isn't it funny, no matter how many photos we take or see if our trucks, there is always another to take and another view.

I love the fact you an take the Mule and just go drive her.

That's one of the best reasons to own an old truck.
Nice video too, looking forward to the day my truck is back up and running.

I drove the Mule to work yesterday and low-n-behold, looks like the alternator gave up. It has been a long time since I actually troubleshot one with a separate/external regulator. nothing seems to be coming out below 1500 rpms and what is doesn't seem like much. I didn't get a chance to dive into it once I got home last nitght, so later on I'll figure it out.

Now I got to decide if I should switch over to the internally regulated alternator or just replace this one.

Any of you know what specific internally one is clocked right for the factory driver's side mounting?
