Lots of work. The trusses are delivered when the walls are up. Then you just tip them up. Yes the walls are framed flat on the slab then tipped up. Total cost for this is around $15k. I had a friend of my neighbor do the concrete work and the roll up door and gutters installed. I did everything else with occasional help from my dad and friends. I'm 6 months into the construction in my spare time. I started moving the cabinets and tool box into the garage today. Soon I will be working on the suburban again.

Did you get everything moved in before the snow hit? I can't believe you guys have more snow for the year than we do.

Check out the big red sled. This wasn't much snow for me. Only around 5" over night. And yes I got everything in the garage. Its not arranged yet but it is inside. The cabinets looked awful so I painted them before I installed them.

I've started a thread in alternate tinkerings showing all the steps.

Re: Project Family Hauler

Not exactly work on the suburban but preparing parts for use. Remember my parts truck.

It looks different now.

I'm not going to use the drivetrain for anything. 305ci V6 and truck 4 speed. Next I need to empty the suburban and move it into the garage to dry off.

Re: Project Family Hauler

The suburban is home.

This is the first time in many many years that it has been inside. A couple more things to do outside and I can get to work on it again.

Since floor space is disappearing quickly I either need one to hand from the ceiling or put it in the attic.

Great to see it in your new garage. Great work.

Re: Project Family Hauler

Still need to move a fence and grind up 3 stumps to finish the driveway. At least it is drying out again. I had it under a car awning for 6 years and this winter the awning gave up. We had strong winds in December that blew the top off and shredded it. My neighbors were picking up pieces 2 yards away. Then the snow and freezing rain hit. Lately it has been normal boring rain and the door I'm building has lots of surface rust I need to clean up. I had cardboard over the window opening to keep neighborhood cats out (it was a temporary storage shed during construction) but all the bare metal and welds have rust.

Re: Project Family Hauler

The suburban is taking so long to get back to I needed a pick me up. So I went shopping. Christmas in July for the other truck.

Remember how it looked?

Well its updated now.

Front wheels are 18x8 Coys with 5.5 inch back space. 245/45R18 tires. Most people have noted problems with the center caps hitting the hub so I ran a 5/16" spacer behind them. Fixed the issue.

The rears are 20x10 Coys with 4" of back spacing. 275/40R20 tires. That back space works for me because I have a Lincoln 9" rearend that is a little narrower than the trucks.

Sorry for the delayed response. Had 4 weekend in a row camping including a car show. The rear end came from a 1975 Lincoln Continental. Had the suspension mounts welded on and the bolt pattern was even correct. A little fab work and the emergency brake even works.

Thanks, that will come in handy down the road for me.
