Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
couple quick updates
I modified stock seat brackets to use on a mid '80's seat. it is a temp while recover the stocker and work on the interior...... it seems to sit a bit different, and doesn't quite go as far back

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
I also shortened column and moved the steering wheel approximately 2.5 inches closer to the dash. Of course it moved the wheel down at the same time. With the mid '80's seat that seems to sit higher, and our after-market wheel, the top of the steering wheel blocks the view of the speedo. guess an Ididit tilt column (or cheaper van tilt column swap) is in our future
here are some pics

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
Oh and I also got the hazard flasher installed and working, guess I'm easily entertained but, I think they are very cool!
more pics oh and some grinder carnage...... the cut off wheel got pinched while I was cutting through the steering shaft and BOOM! luckily it didn't hit me

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
Hey Joe, you dont have to pound stuff with a grinder, just plug it in and it will work just fine.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
well the wife scored a sweet tailgate today from her uncle, and guess the price.....that's right, zip, nada, zero......FREEBIE!
i can't get over how straight it is, it has surface rust, and needs the paint stripped, but we are stoked. our old tailgate was HAMMERED. here are some pics, sorry it was dark I might have a deal for someone, same uncle wants a chrome repop '4-'5-'6 grill, he has a excellent factory anodized grill that he might be willing to trade. or if someone has a good chrome one they want to sell let me know

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
thanks Tim!
Hey Chris, thanks! i was wondering what happened to ya. the primer is rattle can dupli-color self-etching primer. Wal-Mart carries it. here is a pic yes we are planning a rear tank sometime in the future. i have thought about building one, but don't know you gonna do one? thanks everyone for the words of encouragement sometimes it seems like we haven't accomplished much, but what we have done has made the truck so much more fun to drive. being able to post up progress, no matter how small, and you guys complimenting, encouraging, and understanding make it that much easier to put in the hard work THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
It's pretty hard to find an original tailgate that nice, let alone for FREE! That was really nice of your wife's uncle.
Sometimes you just have to focus on just one small task, and then when it's done and looks good it makes you feel good about having got it done. Gotta just keep chippin away at it.

I think your kids bike needs some whitewalls and some 16" ape hangars. That would be cool.
