Stock, wore out suspension vs highly tuned QA1 coil over suspension

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
Got some new exhaust. Kept the stock single pipe, but had them cut a hole in the cross member to route the pipe up higher. Also had the opportunity to get a few more pictures of the suspension. I know how we all love pictures!

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
Drives extremely nice! It is a friggin blast to drive. Although 600hp under the hood would be awesome, the 3 on the tree and straight six ads to the driving experience I think. Not very many people know what that even is. So it acts as a theft system too!

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
Ok guys here is an update. The truck handles incredibly well. I need some of your expertise. I have a decent vibration at 58+ mph (its been this way, nothing to do with the new suspension). I thought it felt like it was coming from a pulley on the motor or a U joint. Both U joints have been replaced and when I rev up the engine its smooth as can be. I also replaced the seal in the back of the trans when I had the drive shaft out. Maybe drive shaft needs balanced, but it's the original and I would think it should be good? Any ideas? I know its a million dollar question, but I thought maybe someone out there had experienced this situation? The thing runs smooth at 55mph. Maybe it just wasn't meant to go that fast. But I cant drive 55! haha
Thanks for the suggestions in advance

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
hi, before I put the cab back on I put the truck on jack stands and ran it threw the gears, it turns out I had a bent axle that was a new replacement and my tail shaft leaked on my new monster 700r4, they replaced that axle was also bent, so I went and bought some high dollar axles and took the stock ones back, its worth a try

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
What kind of rpm are you turning? Could be shaft vibration in the higher rpm's.
Might talk to Drivetrain Ind. in GJ about shaft size vs rpm.

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
So, you've said a number of times how well the truck handles with the new suspension, how is the ride? I'm about to assemble my suspension. I have been going back and forth on what to use. I live in Maine where the roads are hilly, curvy and not the smoothest.

Re: '66 Budget friendly driver
I'm in GJ as well, restoring a '64 for my dad. I just finished painting everything. Chassis is 80% complete and we will start putting the body back together this weekend.
Your '72 is awesome, I'd like to build that body style for myself. |

Maybe not.
I just saw you were in GJ and looked like you worked at the Chevy Dealership. I droped some off to a guy that worked there, thought it might be you.

The front could be brought down a little bit, but I don't want it any lower. I don't really have to worry about much sticking up in the road when I'm driving. Everything is working perfectly together. Couldn't be happier with this setup.

Are those the stock steel wheels that came on the truck or are you running something different? Which spindle did they use on the front, the modular or just the regular 2.5” drop? Looks like there was no issue with the brakes clearing those wheels are you running a wheels spacer also? |
