Hey Sean,
Thanks for the part numbers and modification info. One of these Saturdays I'll have to get over to Plano to see it in person. I'm in the NW side of Cowtown.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Well been a busy beaver last couple of days and here are some more photos of the interior work and how it is coming together. Truckzilla was nice to meet ya and anytime ya gots a question im me etc and I will see what I can figure out on it.. Let me know the spacing on the rear drum brake mount plates and how close that dodge adapter is to it?? Will help alot in getting a good solid set of brakes made for the 3/4 and 1 tons of your year models. Ok to the pics!!!!!

Sean
the first set is of the carpet install and roughing it in the truck! I noticed they said perfect fit but as I have expected anything but perfect I bought the carpet from ACC carpet source for the truck. The foot panels have a 1/4 inch gap between the carpet and the metal wall so will use some trimmed pieces off the doorsill to underlay the main carpet there so the insulation doesnt show through...

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

This set is of the back cab wall cover I am working on at the moment. I found some nice smooth vinyl car material at hancock so will in the next few weeks start covering the abd panels with it. I am going to have to rework the cab corner sepaker panels since they are not quite matching up at the moment. But makin progress!!!!!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Here are the finished back cab wall panels, shore enough going to have to redo the speaker pods on each sie since they aren't quite matching up to the other panels. Plus I saw some ways to make some tweaks to them also to make them look even better. I attempted using super trim 90 adgesive in the spray can at first but gace it as alost cause the vinyl doesnt take it very well so I saw a tube of ahesive for weatherstripping under my workbench and went hmmm??!!?? maybe it'll work and sure enough presto the vinyl stuck to the panels without any truoble. so three hours later here they are. Had to do quite a bbit of strecthing to get wrinkles out but turned out quite nice!!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Sean, It was great to meet you and see the Smurf-hauler in person. You really got it going on! Hopefully next weekend, I’ll have a chance to check out the adapter and thanks again for the parts and all of the insights you gave me. Anyone can do a simple ½ ton but it takes a lot more to redo an old 8 lug truck since no one makes bolt-on rear discs like you came up with.
I wish I were as far along with my POS as you are on ol’ blue, but things are what they are; something only time and cubic dollars can change. The covered panels look good man, as will the rest of the interior. I can’t wait to see what the assembled console will look like with that side bent Lokar shifter sticking up out of it. I forgot to ask about the specifics on the tailshaft extension you put on your previous transmission because I want to get rid of that rubber mounted U-joint coupling that is one the 6L80 right now. And thanks for telling me about needing to use a long shaft U-joint yoke in there.

Oh, I forgot to add, I am so thankful that I live in Fort Worth! The traffic over there is terrible! But I guess those on the east side of the Metroplex already knew that and are used to it, not to mention that there is construction going on every where in between!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Truckzilla,
go to GM parts Giant.com and look up the 2007 - 2008 escalade 6.2l with 2wd transmission setup it has the correct tail housing for your trans but beware there are 6 different output shafts for the 6l80e transmission so you will need to make sure the tail shaft is going to match the housing.
Am gonna keep rolling along till she is done

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Guys,
Got some more work done tonight on the rear cab panels. They are turning out very nice. I made it into 3 pieces intially since I messed up on a few cuts on the panels. It works out since the bottom brackets are going to hold the carpet in place in several points along the panel and speaker pods. Also last night got a new speaker panel template made and going to take another stab at them since the first didn't work out quite how i envisioned them. I am going tommorrow to pick up some more of the abs for the speaker panels and the firewall covering from a local placetics supllier and start on the speaker panels and the firewall covers.

Take a look and enjoy!

Thumbs up Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Sean, I'm anxious to see what the finished panels look like with the speaker grilles in place. Are you going to try and color match them in any way? The main panels across the back of the cab look very good. Hopefully I can do something similar across the back of my squarebody even though it will be hidden by the bench seat.
And my transmission crossmember should be arriving from POL today. Keep after it man! There's no rest for the dedicated.

Hey Truck,
Yeah going to use the same vinyl you see above going to glue around each speaker hole then stretch the vinyl through the opening.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Been pretty busy this week slowly getting the back cab panels in place and finished, the speaker panels started, and last not least rethinking and reqorking the front filler for the console unit! Take a look and enjoy.

First pictures are of the spacing needed for the back of the console and the floor board. The rest are pictures of the redesigned front console filler for the radio and ac vents.. Still kind working my way through them lol hot a gap or two to fix here and there but with the vinyl shouldnt be a problem to overcome !!!!

Well been a little busy this last week getting the center console parts finished up and ready along with the other speaker cab corner panel setup. So far things arent perfect but I am happy witht he results not having a table saw for square cuts sucks lol gonna have to add it to my list of tools for when I eventually tear this truck apart again and get a full metal rehab done to it. Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Ok started another couple of projects now that the interior stuff is ready to secure in place CAn never have enough projects going at once when run out of money for a one pick up another in progress and see what I can do now lol.. Going to be sending the ecm to exatorq this week for a reflash to 08 escalde specs so I can grab hp tuners this summer for reporgramming to stand alone setup.. They qui\oy\ted for a full reflash to factory stock 70 bucks which aint bad price considering most places are wanting 150 just to look at it crosseyed lol... Here are some pics of the wiring harness being installed in the cab at this time, Also working on the shifter and cable assembly. The cable I bought is too short and also was going to have to fab up an angled bracket but looking at it another way and going to start trying an Idea out tonight and see if it works for what I need........
I also ended up redesigning the ecm moutn since I have a bunch of scrap abs laying around and am much happier with the new setup I have made it mounts the ecm partially up under the console. Been looking at my gauge setup and have decided to go another route at this time... Speedhut has some really nice 4 inch gauge sets that have the bright light ind, and turn signal indicators in the gauge itself that I like much better plus their quad fuel/temp/oil gauges is programmable to whatever sender you are using which is a nice feature..

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Well been busy again this week installing the fuel injection and incab harness in the truck.. The first picture is of the center area behind the engine where I have both the injection harness and in cab harness coming through the firewall. The second is the rear view of that same connection inside the cab. and third the computer in it s new home waiting for a reflash and program which should happen pretty soon since I have a friend whos buddy is lead tech at a local dealership and he said he can do it on the side for a price? not sure how much yet but should knoe soon. chuuckles the rubber seal you see sticking out around the grommet plate is old bicycle inner tube I recycles from a junk box in my garage works beautifully to seal the top and sides of that grommet holder.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Been working on a few different projects this week and getting alot finished and ready for the test firing here in next few months. then to body shop for the stained oak I have read for the bed and of course chrome be strips also. Here are some shots of the engine installed with the inner fenders in place around the engine. The other shots are of an experiment with some oreilly sold weatherstripping I found there while going through the body section of their store lol. Looking like I may have a second upper door seal for wind noise in addition to the standard door seal around the door. Time will tell still working with it to see if I can get it around the entire door section got a few problem areas to experiment in and see what I can do with it!
