Re: Project truck dream 65"

All...,at least I want to believe ....all is completed in the cab.......?...........so into smoothing then epoxy primer it goes ! Oh...,new stereo hole needs to be cut..........urg

Why the hesitation........? Guess this means its final,I just know Im going to forget something.

Remember, this truck was started a year and a half ago,but its been sitting in the back yard since....2005.
What I'm getting at is 5 to 6 years of build ideas going through the melon and now there's closure but uncertainty at the same time.

Anyone else ever go through this.....or am I just that special !

Those are two of the nicest dash extensions I have seen.....nice work to both of you. I think I have only seen one other that looked good. Most of them definitely look like an add on.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

After seeing these dash extensions I have to rethink how I'm going to do mine. What I have worked up definitely would look like a add on.

Although these trucks were filled with add ons from the factory. I need to rethink it now. Gezzz more mental work!!!! it just hurts my head.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Interior is now painted, chose a later model Chevy white.I'v been trying to decide on an exterior colour for a year which may end up being different from the interior,so white was a good universal choice.

I have seen a few trucks sprayed that way and liked it. I myself feel that it breaks it up nice, after all this was an original choice by Chevy at the factory.

Shot with a base clear waterborne paint,I was a little sceptical with the waterborne as not many shops have any good to say about it.On the other hand, all the solvent base paints have been pulled from the shelves due to new environmental laws...its not like we have a choice now.

I was lucky enough to meet a top notch painter that swears buy it.He's sprayed a number of local hotrods here with it,the quality and finish is top's !
I was able to get some of the dash components in before taking the pics, couldn't wait !

The pics are ok,but my lighting is poor so they don't do the paint much justice.

Cool Re: Project truck dream 65"

Well.........next set of pics show the steering column back in.The tilt column is out of a 73 Chev van, used an upgrade kit for the flasher, signal and tilt arm.Still waiting for the shorty shift arm, which was a cool find and will work well with a smaller wheel.

Also in is .....the new steering wheel.....only a year to make a choice on that...............,(I think its time to go see a shrink ) gauge cluster and pedals.

At the same time the dash was being modified,I opted to smooth all of the spotwelds around the top perimeter of the firewall.I have seen a few trucks with this step skipped and thought it looked unfinished,so Im glad the time was taken to do it !
I made beauty rings for the top of the defrost vents,a nice little addition that matches the rest of the Vintage air vents/louvers.

Sun visors were pulled from a later model Chev C10. I wanted to have the pivot hook so the visor didn't vibrate when going down the road. This truck only came with a drivers side visor from the factory,to have both sides now is a bonus !
The visor arms were modified so they sit higher than the factory location.I have made mounts for my seats that raise them up 2",so the visors had to be raised out of my site line.

Stay tuned folks, more updates on the way.
Cheers !

Are you raising your seat/s ? We can go from there with pics you need,as you may not need to do all the work I did.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

I still need to get the seat I plan to use, I'm not there yet but would love to see how you put the later year sun visors in with the catch tabs, which is a great idea to keep them from flopping around like the originals did after they got some use.
