Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

You can shorten it without converting. Just take a section out of the existing frame and weld it back together. If I keep mine I plan to do it that way.

I havent had my truck long but a 4x4 crew cab short bed would be the bomb.
This thread here is the one you need .. it shows how to shorten a frame.

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

You can see a members truck that just did this. It is a Regular Cab Longbed to shortbed. Same concept.
http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...p?topic=7334.0

There is also an article on it here by another member:
http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/lwb_to_swb.htm

This subject has come up A LOT. I would follow the forum method of cutting the frame though.

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

What was the Cost of Getting your Driveshaft Shortened for the Truck, I was Given a Quote of $250.00- $300.00 for this? Is that The Going Rate, We only have one Location nearby, I Just Thought that was kinda High to Shorten one? Any Suggestions on where i might look?

Thanks, Rick

For 250-300 they should be building you a completely new shaft, not just re-tubing it.

Lengthening it maybe. Shortening it for that price? No way.

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

here's a few pics of the truck . it's getting ready to go off for paint. we swapped out two of the doors and got the bed ready . the gas door has been relocated . the next time you see the truck it should be red. the truck ride and drives great and the air is cold.

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

This may have been answered already but what size are the tires you have mounted . Also what are the specs on the wheels as far as backspacing goes ? I like the sidewall on them . I wonder how that much sidewall would look on a reg cab short bed ?

ojoe, looking good.
If you ever get time, can you get some more pics of the filler routing? I like the new fuel door.
Wheels: rear 20x10 5.5" bs
front 20x8.5 5.25"bs (I think)

I'm in Montgomery. I'm usually at Flip's and make other shows if I hear about them. Post some pics of your car and Mike's truck, I'll look for you next show.

Who are you planning to use for the interior work? I'd been using Lucky, the guy who had a shop on 231 just south of Taylor Road. But he closed up shop, I heard he's working at home and only doing high-end work now. I'm not sure recovering my Blazer seats and installing a carpet kit would interest him.

thanks for the wheel specs
i will try to get more pics at the body shop. they are taking the bed back off for paint. i did turn the filler tube to the rear of the truck about 2" or maybe from 6 o clock to about 8 o clock and just used a rubber hose to connect the tank to filler end. the hose was hard to find that can be used with gas
