Re: 71 c30 project

Ok sorry guys for the delay in updates as I mentioned I have been working mondo OT... Gotta support the hobby er... I mean family... any way got to mess with it a little today, after hours of measurements checking and re checking I got the 14bff tacked on to the perches. Wade buddy so far it looks like I may have to elongate the holes in the perches a little bit. I will let you know more tomorrow, right now I gotta stop and eat and get ready for work.

Re: 71 c30 project

Does it look like if you elongate the perches will there still be enough room in the trailing arm for the wider U-bolts? Or will that be the next hurdle?! I appreciated all the info. I've got a 72 3/4 ton trailing arm frame that has 88 cross member under the front and the same rear end for the rear. They have it temporarily mocked up with bolts from the bottom and nuts on the captain fab perches, and I'd like u-bolts to be 100% confident in not loosing my rear end going down the road (lol).

LOL! Yeah that would not be good. My u bolt kit and lowering block are for a c20 and I'm off like a 1/16 I'm taking my rotary file set home from work and will let you know tomorrow... If not tonight. Hey on you project are you running the 88 engine frame brackets? Im curious if i can use them on my truck.

Re: 71 c30 project

I'm not at that bridge yet. I think I'll probably use the performance on line tubular perches and drill the bottom hole into the 88 crossmember. I'm going to run an LS motor. That's the "plan" for now

Re: 71 c30 project

Oh ok that sounds pretty sweet! I'm gonna try to adapt the 73-87 mounts to the 71 frame and cross member so I can run the motor mounts I want for the Cummins diesel if I get to it soon I will let you know encase your plans change.

Hey Wade, buddy this pic is for you! Little bit of rotary file action and the u bolts slide in smooth as silk. Btw this was what I woke up to this morning. . You would think it was the end of the world the way people are acting around here...

Re: 71 c30 project

Thanks a million! That is some good news and a relief to see. Same thing with the weather down here. About a 1/2" of snow, sleet, slush!!! General nastiness. It will pass though. Keep up the great job, looking good my friend.

Re: 71 c30 project

Had some slow time at work tonight and started working on a rear cross member.. Wanna see what you guys think. Still got to weld it up and notch it to slide up into the rail about an inch, then I'll quarter some 2" pipe to get a good radius look on the back of the frame

Re: 71 c30 project

Moose, that rear crossmember looks really well built, I like the look of it. Are you doing a wood or steel floor? That pattern would look awesome for cross sills.

Hey thanks man! Well I really was leaning toward a steel floor but the more I surf different threads and see guys hinging the wood floors so people can see all the work the more I like the idea of a wood floor

Re: 71 c30 project

Hey guys no real updates on the dually, been wokring on my cucv M1028 the rearend took a crap on me and while nursing it back into the drive way my steering box broke internally. So I have been sourcing parts and running to get them. Should be back on the c30 by the end of the week.. Hopefully fingers crossed..

Re: 71 c30 project

Hey guys sorry for the hiatus, been real busy with work, kids, and house.. here is a small update, working on moving my steering box up 1.5" to go along with the crossmember. First pic is the frame after removing the offsets for the box, second is mockup to see if I need to change anything and it looks like I'm going to have to notch the frame for bolt clearance on the top left hole. I hope every body subscribed and or read has been doing good!

Re: 71 c30 project

Hey guys hope everybody is having a good Easter weekend. I was able to work on the truck for a little while today and got the steering box moved up and the notch for the bolt in the top left done. But now after mounting the box I think I am gonna have to notch the frame a bit more on the bottom to clear the pitman arm during travel

Nothing lately, been doing a lot of reinvention to my house and just broke ground on a new shop. But if you have any questions I'll answer as best I can.
