Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

Love the cut down wheels. This isn't a GM but my buddy grafted a smaller hoop from a junkyard onto his Ford spokes and it came out sick

Original 71,
Thanks for the kind words but due to work loads I am afraid I wouldn't have the time right now.
I am trying to put together an outline with pictures showing the process I used.
It wasnt' difficult and I think well worth the effort.
Cheers!

There is no better interior color, only rivaled by solid red in my book.

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

Thanks for the compliments guys!!

NewType72, the wheel is a repop, I would have liked to find an original but it's hard to find any of the colored wheels other than black in good shape. I bought it from a board member but am pretty sure it's the same sold by any vendor...so far I like it...will know better after a few winters and summers.

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

Does anyone have a reference for changing out the steering wheel? I just bought a 1970 C10 and the steering wheel is too small. It is hard to turn since it doesn't have power steering and I heard the original larger steering wheels make it easier to turn. Is it easy to change?

Any how to videos? I am such a newbie.

Nathan first welcome to the forum, and depending on witch steering wheel you have , just take the horn button off, and there is one nut that holds the wheel on, you will need a puller after you take the center nut off. i have seen some pull on the wheel till it comes off ....but when it does you will have a bloody nose...so if you can get a puller get one....most of the time the wheels have a mark on them to line the up to center the wheel. if not just leave it a little loose and drive forward to make sure its centered before you tighten it up...good luck on your truck...

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

Some wheels come off easier than others. I have pulled them by loosening the nut enough to protect the threads on the end of the shaft. Pull on the wheel with some force and tap the nut. Just a few taps will usually do it. If you've got a helper to either pull on the wheel or to tap the nut on the shaft, it will be a little easier. Had an uncle that could just jerk them off with the nut loosened, but that's not normal.

I dont believe they ever made a solid red interior like mine, or at least the seat cover anyways. I ordered mine in this color combo. I had a factory wheel, but took it out because of the size. I'm not really liking this one either but it is smaller and will do until I find one I like.

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

I've recently switched back to my sport wheel and actually hate it over running the larger original holes cracks and hugeness included. So ill be restoring a better wheel I have so I can swap back to a large original and feel more comfortable

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

Since I am fairly new here I'll revive this thread. I too am going to change out my steering wheel for a smaller Grant Challenger Series Part # 414. Only because I have power steering on my truck and need the space or room in the cab to be able to get in & out - because of my beer belly keg....lol I will not sell my original wheel incase I ever decide to sell Valerie the wheel will go with her.

Re: Stock Steering Wheel Whos Keeping Them And Why ?

I'll go ahead and add in mine as well. Steering wheel is original and has been restored since mid spring of this year. I daily drive this 72 and love this steering wheel more everyday, even with power steering it's still fun to have. Eliminated the etched look as well because I couldn't save that but I think it looks more modern now so it fits.
