There are a few different ways to shorten this so I drew up some of the options. I left the original image behind each one to give you a general sense of how much I was chopping. If you are going to cut it.. I think it looks best if you cut a section in front of and behind the rear wheel although maybe I shortened it to much.. Let me know.. I can do it different..

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
I agree...if it was cut I agree that would be the best option (cut front and rear)

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
I like it long, maybe just 3" from behind the wheel. If you are going to shorten it in front of the wheel, it needs to be Blazer length, front and back of wheel. I still say leave it l o n g.

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
STICKEL YOU GOTS SKILLS!! Eric you got to shorten it with the section in front of the wheel and behind, i know its more work and tough on the budget but it will be worth more if you ever go to sell it .you can do it!!!

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
Short I think but just make one cut. Move the wheel well instead of cutting the panel twice. Just a thought.
Geez Stick you got me on this one, I think the more I look at the long version the more I like it. Hmmmmm. |

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
I liked your budget idea and trying to keep it as a faster build. Also, look at the shows and longbeds are definitely gaining in popularity....and this looks really cool factory length...plus extra room behind the seats for storage...

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
I like the stock long and low but I'm going against the vote so far and voting for the cut in front of the wheel well if you find the need to shorten. It has great balance without having "just another short bed".

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
If I am going to stay in the budget stock is we're it should be. It will not cost me anything but time to shorten it. But I know me if I shorten it then it will get out of control and I will have 40 k into it before you know it. Also I think you guys need to know I am building this so all three kids and the wife can get in it and go for a ride. My little girl eve alread has the custom bug. She wants a 1960 pink cadillac laid out on air ride.

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
both notches are in and all cross members are out. Center cross member is in and bolted down. I still have to finish welding up the notch and boxing the frame but it seems to going well. Hope the notches are deep enough to lay this truck out. I am going to measure the ones on the 72 to see if i have enough room. I guess only time will tell.

Re: I dont no what I am building haha
What about stock length but open up the wheel well 4" or so and run a 24" rear to fill up the opening. Just a thought. that would eat up some of the side panel and give it the sporty look with out changing as much.
Either way, it looks awesome. |
