Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Thanks!

I played around with brake lines for the first time... NIGHTMARE!

And the big project has been stainless steel 4" exhaust

stainless magnaflow muffler

All Tig welded

Tip exit location... threw a 22x14 xd diesel and 35" nitto on to see how It looked... way too big for me but I do like the width!

And while my buddy is finishing up welding the exhaust and hangers I have been stripping the cab and doors to get ready for media blasting hopefully next week!

Nope I will not be selling it and I am keeping it... Exhaust is just about finished up, few updates on chassis and motor and waiting to hear back from sandblasters.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Hey sweet progress and as always great truck. I may have asked this but it's been too long, what lift do you have and how is it holding up? I ask because I haven't found a 1 ton lift for 67-72 trucks. I'm thinking about the skyjacker 3/4 ton 6" lift but worried about sag in the front due to the cummins. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!!

What springs did you use up front..I'm doing the same thing and I don't know where to find some to give me a lift and be able to hold the weight of a 12v

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

6" superlift HD fronts meant for heavy winch bumpers etc
6" pro comp rears 52" eye to eye
$600 for all four

May include 4 bilstein 5100 shocks for right price

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I went with Off Road Design, In which they had a form I filled out with the specs....Year, Make, Model, Bumpers Stock or Winch etc. Somehow they are connected with Alcan Spring. Think I paid $600 for the front springs and hardware. They are 8 Leaf springs designed for my Blazer with a Cummins that is used for on road mostly...it has a good soft ride.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Well I am long overdue for some updates! Mostly been working on getting ready for paint and finishing up small jobs. I got married in October and we bought a house, so now that we are settled in I can keep workin on the truck!

On to the photos

Finally got the complete truck back from media blasting and priming

Doors look very nice, fenders are nice, tailgates clean, cab will need some patch panels but not bad.

The drivers bed had been worked pretty good so I went with a reproduction

Overall I'm happy and can't wait to start getting closer to paint! All of my metal work will be done with the assistance of my parents neighbor who built hot rods for years locally and still does lead work.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

You have a really nice build. I want to drop a 12v in my pickup this summer and have a few how to questions. 1. Could you get your specs on your cross members and motor mounts? 2. Were did you get your crossover steering? 3. Were did you get your exhaust pipe to build it yourself. Thanks for having a really good thread for a reference.

Thanks! I cannot wait to drive it!
1. Everything was cut on a cnc plasma for monts and crossmember. What measurements would you need?
2.crossover is from wfoconcepts.com in Auburn. Great company! Get on their mailing list and watch for emails on sales around holidays.
3. I bought stainless steel 4" bends from summitracing.com they are made by diamond eye.

Mainly just measurements of the cross members and mounting tabs. Like the angles and lengths. Post a video of it when you get it running.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Thank you! Yes dodge used an NV4500 as well, the input is different than the chevy, and dodge nv4500 bellhousings are very pricey. First gen dodge diesels (89-93)have a getrag 5spd trans with a 29 spline np205 that is passenger side drop. The getrag is a good trans but not as strong and known to be "sloppier" shifting. Second gen dodge diesels (94-02 had an nv4500 with a 29 spline output as well but had a np241 drivers side diff. I cannot wait to drive mine! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Congrats on getting married and getting a new house. That's awesome! Your sheet metal looks awesome! Those new bed sides were a good investment as they'll save you a lot of time.
