Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

It's finally in the Truck (for the last time)

Another milestone day today. Car Boss, Double E, my Son-in-Law, and I all pitched in and lowered the engine into the engine bay for hopefully the last time. Stay tuned as we continue

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

No off the shelf air intake on this build

Car Boss was hard at work again today working on ideas for an air intake.
He also bolted in the under-dash Vintage Air unit. We also pulled the wheels and tires to have new taller rubber installed. Anybody need a pair of Nitto 555 in 245/30/R20, let me know, I'll let them go cheap, less than 200 miles.

Plumbing the AC & Heater hoses

AC & heater hoses are coming along. We are not using the hoses that came with the Vintage Air kit, but instead fitting and routing them custom lines.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

ECM Harness is Complete and Installed

Busy weekend. Well at least for Car Boss and Double E. I on the other hand skipped out Saturday to attend my grandsons first birthday. While I was gone, the ECM harness was installed, the fuel injectors were tested, and a vacuum was put on the AC system to check for leaks. We passed the vacuum leak test but failed the injectors. A couple were dripping under pressure and another shot out a stream of fuel even though it wasn't firing.

Friday I got the Boss 338's mounted with taller rubber, now I just need to decide how much I'm going to lower the truck. Also got the drive shaft installed and the last inner fender installed.

Bonus Pic of my 72 and "Hank" the 58

Seat Covers and Air Intake Delivered!

I've been waiting a couple of months for my seat covers to arrive from Truck Seats and they were dropped off today.

I also received the AEM air filter and 4" Aluminum tubing that Car Boss will turn into something special.

I bought a vintage air kit here on the forum that was from someone else's "stillborn" project. It did not include hoses and vintage air tells me the kit is obsolete, so I will have to make up my own hoses. Do you still have the hoses that came with your kit? I am using the compressor that came with the kit (sanden, I believe).

WideSide,
Sorry, I don't have the hoses or the Sanden compressor, sold it already.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

Grill & Headlights back in place

Made some progress today. We flowed the replacement injectors this afternoon and they will work fine. How many of you have actually flowed and measured the output of each of your injectors? Well if you have Double E and Car Boss around you would. I forgot to take a pic of the injector tester but I'll try and get one a bit later.

Double E installed the headlight harness which allowed me to install the headlight buckets, lights and trim rings. It's starting to look like it did before we started this project.

Also I was wrong about the final harness. Double E still has one left to build and install. The fan harness.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

New Houndstooth by Truck Seats

This has been another milestone day! First I got my seat back from the upholster this afternoon that I ordered these from Truck Seats back in early November and I think they turned out great. We're not quite ready to install it so it's taking up some space in my wife's living room.

Second my 1year old grandson came to visit and I think he likes it too. I hope he and I spend lot's of time on this seat.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

Here we go....time to install the F.I.R.S.T. TPI
This has really been a big day for the team. We finished installing the FIRST TPI intake. Double EE's wiring harness was spot on. This thing is truly a TPI on steroids!

So what do you think?

Looks good!

Little tip for you: put a space between your picture links (image code), or hit enter after each link and your pictures will scroll down the screen instead of sideways. It would make it easier to see all of your pics. Like this:
