Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

I think the po worked this motor to death and did very little maintenance. We don't get hard enough freezes around here to crack a block. So I figure it overheated at some point and popped. Its air-cooled now. I'm interested to see what the internals look like when I pull it.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

Just been doing a few small things lately. Painted up my fan, pulleys, new water pump and some more grill parts. Piecing the rest of the grill together. More pics coming.

OK I'm all caught up on your thread here. I like the way you're steadily getting it done..piece by piece, inch by inch, setback by setback, pretty much what I'm doing. Keep up the fire! Looking forward to the next hill you're going to take.

I figured if I can just keep doing one small thing a week, I'll make some good progress over time. Not in a rush. It's fun for me to just take one small piece and clean it up without getting overwhelmed.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

After a year of sitting on the floor of my garage, broke down and picked up a hoist and got my new engine on a stand. I got a 1 ton hoist at PepBoys for $129, cheaper than Harbor Freight. Happy, happy, happy.

Nice. They're handy for more than moving engines too.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

Inching closer. Got the new engine painted and mostly reassembled. Then, pulled off any remaining salvageable parts from the old 283. Lots of chunky stuff in the valley. Will post the useable stuff on the parts board here in a bit. Lastly, slapped on the cleaned up grill to see how it looks on the truck. Swap should go smooth from here.

Thanks, Rob. Trying to make some headway with the few spare pennies I have and limited spare time. Took advantage of a few nice days here in the Valley over the weekend to get some stuff done.

Just a couple things to finish up, then it's ready to go.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

Pulled the oil pan off since in needs replacement. Looks like it got banged up on some speed bumps. Thought I'd take a close look at the internals. Everything looks new. No surprises here since it's supposed to have 20k on the rebuild. Now just to get a new pan and seal it up.

Save yourself the trouble I just had with my Edelbrock top end - get a fuel pressure gauge and regulator and set it at 5.5psi. Also consider a carb spacer for heat insulation.

Thanks Jimbo. I saw that on your thread. I'll add it to my Summit wishlist.

Just ordered a bunch of stuff from Summit including an HEI dizzy. Can't wait until it arrives. Soon, soon....

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

The brown Santa paid me a visit today. Got a few things:
Air Cleaner w/ bow tie wing nut
HEI Distributor w/ 8 mm wires
Carb Spacer
Fuel Filter
Throttle Return Springs
Choke Cable Bracket

I'm so excited to finish this off.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

After trying 3 different sets of 8mm HEI wires, finally got some that fit. Needed the long wires made for a 1975 Corvette 350. I've ran my PCV hose and vacuum lines, and mocked up the pump to carb fuel line. Not really satisfied with the fuel line yet, but it'll work for now. Almost ready to drop it in.

Looking real sharp there. I'm not totally happy with my fuel line setup either (but it works for now).

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

My problem is all my fuel lines are 5/16, while the inlet at the carb is 3/8. I need to find a good way to mate up the fuel lines.
