Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Why thank you! Looks like yours is coming right along, i'm oficially out of money on mine as of now. I have blown my budget, and now have to pay for the rest as time and money allows. What once seemed important on this resto now has been put on the backburner. Like my cab trim, was gonna buy all of it new to match the bed trim I bought for this truck last time I had it painted, turns out I can buy a whole new set for what it would cost to just replace the cab trim???

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Budget, what's that? I'm slowly pecking away on mine 1-2 hours a night when I can. I've changed directions on mine numerous times either due to money or just simply seeing it done differently in another build.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
It looks great.
I hear you with the budget thing, Im not even close to being done with mine and ive spent way more money than I ever intended to (even though it might not look like much).

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Believe it or not, i'm finding lots of money savers at the salvage yard. I got my front and back window trim, a set of chrome wing windows, and a tailgate handle assembly for 15 bucks!

That's the way to do Gene, original parts. May not be new.... but it's part of the hunt. Good job man, the red looks real good. Trevor

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Thanks Trevor, as i'm sure you know, your truck was the inspiration for my build. If I hadn't done mine in med blue n white the first time I rebuilt this truck 10 years ago, it would look just like yours.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Thanks Gene, onto your question about the rear wheelwell gap. My gap on my rear wheelwell is like the one you have. It's normal to be closer in the front.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Some progress, fired the engine up for the first time after re-wiring the entire truck, and my only boneheaded mistake was having my firing order off on all 8 cylinder because I forgot where #1 was located DOH!

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Pulled the truck outside to bleed the brakes and work on powersteering and I snapped a few pics. Still waiting on getting my front and back glass installed so I can get it back to my paint guy to colorsand and buff.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Not much new to report, finally done and home from the body shop for good. Got all my glass installed and now working on trim. I think I have lost half may dang clips during this process! Hopefully I will be driving this thing before long. |

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion
Installed a couple of interior lights I bought from a board member, always wanted to do this to an old truck. |
