Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

This just in from the Wilwood website:

The D52 calipers made for a 1" thick rotor will work on rotors .81-1.04" thick and 11-12" in diameter.

The D52 calipers made for a 1.25" thick rotor will work on rotors 1.19-1.28" thick and 11-12" in diameter.

Seems you were on the right track all along CaptainFab!

Info from here: http://www.wilwood.com/CaliperList.a...0Dual%20Piston

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

Thanks for posting this Alvin

I've been so busy with working on this new caliper bracket and my regular work that I haven't had time to search for that info.

You should update the first post with the outcome/summary of all this when you get it all installed, it would make a very good reference!

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

I think i rather have the d52s up front and have a matching setup in the rear, captain fab is making the ideal kit for my application, Im going more for form then function, i think it would look almost stock on the truck. Please let me know when you have the fabbed up and ready to ship out i will send out the $$$ asap.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

OK, I've got the pricing on the caliper brackets for using the D52 calipers with the Astro rotors on the GM truck 10 and 12 bolt rears.

For the set of brackets with the mounting hardware will be $232.00 plus a flat rate shipping in the USA of $10.00. This consists of 3 pieces per side. The main reason for the cost is the 1.250" thick spacer needed between the brackets. This could have possibly been done with less cost, but the current design is what I feel is the best and safest way of accomplishing this. And I don't believe in cutting corners on something as critical as the brakes on your vehicle.

I don't want to clutter up Chucks thread with what could be considered a for sale add, so lets hear what you guys think of this price. Is it affordable, or do I need to look at a different rotor to try and get the cost down. The only other rotor besides the Lincoln and Impala would be one from a late 70's Eldorado. But they are only 11" in diameter and typically more expensive than the Astro rotors. If a few of you are still interested in these brackets, I will get some cut and post up some pics of the actual pieces you will be buying.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

The LS1 rotors are not as deep which could work if you redrilled the rotors... However I do not know the center register or inner diameter for the axle to mate up to.. i have no measurements...

Quick question captn, would the impala caliper bracket that u offer work with the d52? I was reading this website and they offer a d52 for replacements to the B body impalas

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud

The LS1 rotors are 12.01" in diameter and 1.02" thich which while being bigger in diameter are thinner, which may not be an issue. The center register hole is 2.78" whereas the truck axles require a center register of aprox 3.08-3.10". So a machining process would be required. Then the bolt pattern is 5 x 4.65", so the 5 x 5" pattern would need to be drilled. The shallower depth would lend itself to a simpler less expensive caliper bracket, but I don't know if that would be enough to offset the cost of machining the rotors.

No, the Impala SS style caliper is completely different than the D52 style calipers. I didn't spend a lot of time reading on the Impala SS forum, but they were talking about front brake upgrades, not the rear. I used to make a bracket for the Lincoln rotors and the smaller GM Metric caliper. I have since sold out of that design, but I plan to develop a new improved desing in the not to distant future.
