3M brushable is about 30.00 a quart, and the dumdum in 1/4" strips is cheap. I'll get a couple 12x12 cut out, there is more if you need it. PM me your addy... J

RustyParts, nice post on the B pillar repair. You do nice work. Do you remember off hand what gauges or thickness metal you use?
Thanks

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Not much progress this weekend. Long weekend. Had to run up north Saturday morning then a bachelor party Saturday night so I didn't get started very early today. I don't think I ever really actually started, lol. I did get the sandblaster cleaned out and working. I picked up this stuff called Black Diamond. Not sure what kind of media it is but it works really well... I'm not going to do the bedsides or body panels with it just the top and bottom of the floor.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Got a chance to work on it tonight. The drivers floor is about done. I ran out of wire right as completed the last weld. How often does that happen Normally it'd happen with just 4 or 5 spots to go. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket tomorrow, lol. Hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow night to do some more....

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Got the metal last night. Man you packed that good, I think a tank could've run over it and not hurt it, lol. Thanks for hookin' me up. I'll get you a M.O. out asap.
5150, nope not this weekend. I got some dough comin' but thats for primer, filler, sand paper, etc....... Its gonna be awhile before I get to go get some pretty parts. I've been looking at phantom grills. If anyone knows some good places that offer those, post up. |

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Worked on it a little today. Took my seats out and put them back upstairs. I got my bed metal from jaros44 this past week so now I can start on the bed floor. I welded in the patch behind the drivers door. It came out good, although I can't find my sanding blocks so the skim coat will have to wait. I shot some primer on for now. I've been working on the front grill cover for neighbors allis for awhile now. It was in 3 pieces, lol. We fiberglassed it back together then I put a thin coat of filler on it. The only rattle can color we could find was chevy orange...... It came out ok... I was going to spend some more time sanding but neighbor said, "paint it, I'll probably break it anyway", lol...

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Nice work, how'd you like working with those clamps, any easier? Does everyone have an old plastic milk crate in their workshop?

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
The clamps rock! They hold the panels nice and even. I got them on Ebay cheap, way cheaper than eastwood. 4 sets of 4 for like 40 bucks shipped, I think. Yes, I love the milk crates. They make great crap holders/transporters, step stools, paint stands, etc. I've probably got 5-10 of them laying around. Oh I forgot, they make a great seat in our trucks when oem isn't available, lol.... I drove mine several times sittin' on one.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I had a few minutes tonight to do some rust removal. Something funny, kinda..... I was cutting across the floor toward the passenger door using a new 4" disc that I picked up cheap. It seemed ok for a second then it just wasn't cutting worth a crap. Real slow progress,lol... Talk about a brain fart. I cut into the bracing under the floor...... All the way through and across the top, lol. No big deal as I'll just weld it up, funny stuff though. Turns out the new cheap wiz wheels are ok...... I guess ya had to be there but I actually was laughing out loud. I mean I stopped cutting, checked out the wheel and the die grinder and was like what the fudge is wrong with this thing . Then looked down at the cut and said wtf, lol.... Oh well, heres some pics...

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Are you using your cutoff wheel in the angle grinder, or just the air die grinder?

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I use the air die grinder for cutting sheet metal and the makita angle grinder in the pic to clean up spot welds and stuff. I have a bit bigger makita grinder I use with cut off wheels for thick stuff, wreaking havoc and grinding down welds.
