Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Trans cooler with fan, I’ll use a manual toggle to keep the trans temp in line. I don’t like relying on those crappy expensive boxes to control the temp of your stuff. They always seem to fail just after your put all your trust in them

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Just found your build and read through it. Very cool truck!! Chassis looks awesome, and the engine work, kick a$$!
I have to say, seeing it laid out on transits is something else. Looking forward to the updates.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
I got my batteries hooked up, I’ve never ran two before so this was a first for me. They are hooked in parallel so positive to positive and negative to negative will give me a 12 Volt system with double the amps. Used mainly for starting the old Cummins. In reality I don’t think I needed the two since I won’t be doing any winter driving with it. I got these terminal clamps from summit and turns out I was able to run a 3/8” all thread through one to the other. Worked out great I think, I am missing the main cable to starter in the picture. I’m keeping it off until I wire the truck.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
I needed to run a return line to my tank, I was scratching my head for a few weeks on this one but ended up drilling a hole beside the main fuel line and put in a NPT bulk head fitting with a 90 then a NPT-Inverted flare fitting. Bent up some lines and boom it looks almost like GM did it 60 yeas ago, also I forgot to order fuel tank straps and with the shipping delays today I had to get crafty so I used my seat belts I had ordered for my bench seat. I must say they do look pretty decent back there

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Now I’m working on the gauges. I cut out the middle of my old cluster but left enough meat to drill a few holes and use screws to hold on a plate with my gauges in them. I was going to order a few more gauges to fill up the space but buying gauges for no reason is expensive. I think I’ll run a couple toggle switches I’ll need to fill up space. This is by no means a show truck so little chrome toggle switches on the dash won’t bug me. I like to watch the gauges and control the fans and temp myself.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Also been tinkering with the cooling system, made my own rad hoses out of exhaust pipe and silicone couplers. Looks good and should be fairly durable. I’m going to powder coat them the same colour as my valve covers and turbo and such after I work the bugs out of it.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
I’m going to get the truck running and driving hopefully next week or two then take a small break from it. I’ve been “working from home” for the past 6 weeks with this virus crap and I’m kinda getting burnt out form the truck. I’d like to bring my Lincoln home and drive it a bit.
I have new black carpet for the truck, it’s laying out in my basement trying to get the creases out, does the carpet lay in pretty good with these trucks? Or is it a pain in the arse like any other carpet I’ve done before? |

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Gettin there, rads in and hooked up, trans is filled up with oil, brake lines are fully complete, throttle linkage and on and working good and my mechanical fuel shut off is in. I was able to retro fit the original choke cable from the OG motor into the shut off. Works amazing.

Haven’t been doing much cause of the heat but I’m back at it now, I got some old barn board from a neighbour, it’s just sitting in there but looks like it will match fairly well. and installed the roll pan

Wiring is complete as well, easiest wire job I’ve ever done. Gotta love the simplicity of the Cummins 12 valve.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Very nice work. The only thing I think you may have issues with is that short exhaust. Your bed is going to be black and nasty in the very near future.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Because I can’t leave well enough alone I decided to compound turbo the Cummins. It’s a Borg S475 over the stock holset. Along with the fun comes valve springs, head studs and a new head gasket. The rocker pedestal needed .200” taken off for rocker cover clearance.

Re: Slammed 1966 GMCummins 12v
Got everything back from powder coating again, I built the hot and cold side myself from 3” tubing. It was a tedious job but I got it done. Stuffed a intercooler in the front as well. With little grille modifications it fits perfectly behind there. I needed an external wastegate to give the little turbo a break at high RPM’s. It’s a 60mm precision gate that blows into the big turbo exhaust inlet. I’ve got no way of controlling max boost so a blow off valve or another wastegate might be in my future shopping cart at Summit. We will see…
