Re: 1970 C30 Car hauler Buildish thread.
Unfortunately No real progress has been made on the truck. I've been busy redoing the bead roller. The forward and reverse switch broke a few years ago and I have been wanting to finish it for a while now, That and I needed to make a table for it, it keeps leaving scratch marks when I make a turn.

Wow! You have a lot of time in that bead roller and it is sweet! I really like your garden area too. My wife wants to do another garden this year. We had an area tilled and I'm glad we didn't plant anything yet. It keeps dipping below freezing here still. Keep up the great work!

Re: 1970 C30 Car hauler Buildish thread.
Thanks! Unfortunately this will probably be the last update for a while as i'm getting ready to have replacement hip surgery in a few hours.
Not much progress has been made, I cut another hole in the cab, It goes from my switch panel to the box that the air compressors sit in. I will be wiring up a six way relay box that will be going inside of the box it will control the air compressors, the roof rack lights, rear light bar, the tie down bed lights, Maybe an air horn or something? 20210425_153415 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210425_195849 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210425_200110 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr stripped the switch panel down for paint. 20210425_165721 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr relocated the tab to clear the gauges, 20210425_171905 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr Painted 20210425_200236 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr gauges and switches installed 20210426_205754 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr |

That said the wheels are off ebay, One was a return with a few scratches that I got for half price! and I ordered the other from the same seller. You can also find them on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RJZK4X7...v_ov_lig_dp_it Thank you, I really appreciate that! I sure need it, my hip is doing good so far but I went in to get my staples out yesterday and they gave me the second covid shot while i was there, and man I feel worse than I did when I first got out of sugary. QUOTE>>>>>>>Thanks, Well if my body would quit falling apart, I would have had it finished by now lol, back surgery 2019, 2020 hip surgery, now getting a full hip replacement in a month or so don't have a date yet, with my luck I'll have to have a knee done next year lol. at the moment I am only able to work 2-3 hours a day at most before I can no longer stand. I will probably be down a few months between the surgery and physical therapy. So i'm hoping to get this side done so I can get started on the other side so I can get the truck out of the garage before my surgery.
Buddy, I know what your going through, it kills me that I only get a couple yours in a day. Same situation, numerous back surgerys from 2012 to current, I have 3 rods in my back fusing my spine to my pelvis. I cant bend for **** and when I do i get the Ole sciatica pain doesn't play nice. I sit in a chair most the time it seems. That being said your build is pretty badass and your doing a great job. i Hope your doing well and continue to do so.... don't push it too hard. its very easy to hurt yourself further, just by lifting too much or twisting wrong and set you back further. Ask me how I know. |

That's looking really nice! I hope the hip upgrade is going well. My Dad just got his replaced and they had to replace the whole thing. He's been struggling but getting through it.

Nice views from the tritoon. We are running out of good weather to do stuff like that now. Nice work on the speakers. That's one thing that usually gets put off just to get a project driving. My Camaro still has no speakers in it. I need to finish that.

Nice find on the D80. You should like that a lot better. The 3:54s just work so well behind a 12v. If you decide to sell the HO rear axle I might be interested in it.

I was going to make an electric parking brake as the fuse box I made is in the way but I think it will just fit with 3/8 on both sides. 20210925_204051 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I also had to move the manual fuel shut off on the other side. I think I will like it better here. 20210925_204057 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I cut off the old spring perches . 20210926_140228 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I made some shock mount brackets the inside factory mount was the same place as the outside mount on the old axle. so I just had to add one tab to each side and that way II Will hopefully be able to use the dana 80 sway bar. 20210928_183640 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210929_203738 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210929_215026 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210929_215048 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr Imade a spring perch location jig to help locate the nre perches on to the new axle. 20210930_151119 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I also made a mark where the center of the old perches were before i cut them off. 20210930_151206 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_152739 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_152440 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I got lucky they ended up being 7 and 5/8 from the brake flange on each side with the jig. 20210930_152525 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_153828 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_153835 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_153847 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_153906 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr My new overload spacers I could not find a set so i'm make my own 20210930_155258 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20210930_193404 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr Wire wheeled and painted 20211001_155825 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211001_155846 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211001_210613 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr |

Nice work on the jig and getting the new mounts put on. It's nuts how long that stuff takes to get all done.

The jig ended up working perfectly, Its all the little things that take for ever, that and it doesn't help that Fedex ended up losing some of my brake parts for the axle. I installed a pair of Speedi-Sleeves on the axle but they where to long I had to trim them to fit. Not sure If your supposed to but It worked out. 20211002_141406 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211002_141643 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211002_142222 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I rounded it over so it doesn't cut the seals. 20211002_142848 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211002_142900 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211002_143528 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211002_195554 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr Well..... Waiting on brake parts I finally decided to install the mirrors. So I have be trying to decide on what to do about the mirrors for a few years now. I like the way west coast tow mirrors look but the idea of drilling all those holes in the dor and then in a few year then starting to rust I just could not bring my self to do it. The and I need the mirrors to fold out of the way as I park it in the lower half of our barn and its narrow. After years of trying to decide on how to mount the mirrors I decided to mount them like the way the do on the kodiak trucks on the cowl. My cowl panel is junk It hand a lot of little holes and pitting already so I have no problem cutting it up. 20211005_154319 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211005_154321 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211005_161802 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211005_163509 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211005_163525 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211006_145225 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211006_141516 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211007_193736 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr finished the overload spring spacers. 20211008_144250 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211008_144350 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211008_144411 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr sunset on the tritoon its been a warm october here trees are still green. 20211010_190501 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211010_190659 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211010_190126 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211010_190244 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr finally all the brake parts are in. 20211010_220230 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211010_200234 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211012_202131 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211012_202936 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211014_155107 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211014_160008 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I modified the cab jacks I made to mount the cab on the frame to mount the axle. 20211014_185024 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211014_191947 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211014_192000 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I had to wait until I got the axle in be for I mushered for new U bolts. 20211014_192042 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211014_192331 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211015_143238 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211015_143242 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I test fit the wheel and It looks like I will need to widen the bed 4.5 inches. 20211016_142751 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211016_142806 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211016_142754 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr new long wheel studs so I can finally install all the lug nuts. 20211016_171614 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211016_171810 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I also started making brackets for helper bags. 20211016_182040 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211016_212638 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211016_212652 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211018_195657 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr I also scored a set of wheel with new tires from the junkyard that are the correct size. well there not 19.5s but they will work until I can save to for 19.5s the chevy inners don't fit the dodge axle so I had to get dodge wheels.the outers where universal lug centric so they fit. 20211018_191800 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr 20211018_202255 by jarrod vanwinkle, on Flickr Last edited by jarrodblake; 10-19-2021 at 12:17 AM. |
