Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Been busy with school lately but have still been getting a bit done on the truck. I've been having troubles starting it. First I thought it was the carb then I thought It was the ignition but then I found out I had a big vaccum leak that seems to be the problem. So I ordered a new gasket that should be here soon. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

When I get my license my plan is to bring it in to the auto class so I can work on it during school.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Does your choke work? without a choke you will have to pump it full of fuel to start and then light pump to keep it going till it warms up.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Nik .Had you opened up the carb. and checked float and needle and seat? Did you also check the initial timing to line up at tdc on the harmonic balancer timing mark?

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Yes the float and needle are good and the rubber is in good shape and seats correctly. But I haven't checked the timing yet. It ran fine before and I didn't touch the timing at all but I'll still check

Been busy with school lately but got some work done on the truck today. Made a filler panel to cover up where the gas filler neck used to be. Still needs to be welded in place.

Funny. That's exactly how I start my truck without a functioning choke.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
When I have the choke off nothing really happens. When it's on it fires, It's not actually running, just lots of popping.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
exams are finally over and I can get back on the truck but first I had another project to tackle that I thought I'd show you guys. Just bought this really clean 94 Honda xr100 for $400! Runs really well and all it needed was a exhaust heat shield. Made one today and decided to get fancy and printed out a Honda logo template and then painted it on. Turned out pretty good

As someone who has ridden bikes since age 14, I can only approve.
And these little Hondas go well.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
I've been outta touch with your build since page 1...
It's great to catch up and see all you've accomplished. I really dig the maple knobs and the rear bumper mod… Truly appreciate seeing the "outside the box" thinking... Hats off to your Dad for Parenting done Right!!! Great to see you and others your age out here getting after these old trucks… Keep up the great work and if I can offer any advice, chase your passion in whatever arena and you will never say, "dang I gotta work again today…" One parting thought… Stay warm and get the truck time in… although our winters here are interesting, weather wise, it's hard to blame the weather all the time… One week ago I woke up to this… Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr …and today is forecast to be sunshine and 61F… Welcome to Arkansas!
