Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Yes, you still want the cardboard cover. Otherwise the gas can stain the carpet around where the lines go in at. These brass clips aren't reproduced to my knowledge. Let me know if you find out otherwise. Did you happen to get any measurements of the holes yet? Trevor

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Thank you very much! Do you know if anyone repops those or if carpet for the tank can be ordered with it? Never seen those before---very cool! Thanks again for the picture...

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Ok, I checked my repop carpet. It attaches to the rear of the cab via 4in-wide plastic "U" clips (sewn on carpet edge), which attach along the lip of the top edge of the gas tank. But you could use the brass oblong rings instead of the plastic clips if someone comes up with a source.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Yeah, my repop carpet came with the plastic clips to drape over the gas tank. The brass sets I have came from original bucket seat optioned trucks. Trevor

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Well, the holes are kinda all over the place. No real uniform spacing. From the door edge (with gasket removed from the passenger door over to the first hole is 1 1/2", then 2 3/4 to the next hole, 3 9/16 to the next, 3 1/2, 7 1/2, 7 7/8, and then 8 5/16 which puts us lined up directly over the center hole in the gas tank upper bolt holes. Next hole is 6 7/16 over, then 7 3/4, 7 5/8, 7 5/8, 4 1/4, and then 1 3/8 puts us at the driver's door edge.
THey are mostly all 1 1/8" from the lower edge of the cab but some are up to 1/2" higher. Wonder if this is just factory quality control or lack thereof....it appears there was glue all the way up to under the rear window gasket at some point. Maybe a later cover someone installed or would that have been that way at the factory? Anyone have a picture of the factory cover installed with the grommets? Here's my rough diagram

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Picking up another Turbo 400 tonight. Supposedly a recent rebuild with a good stock torque converter. We will see when it's torn into

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Got the Turbo 400 (which turns out later to be a 350 DOH! ). much cleaner than the first one
Still going to degrease it and then it goes to the tranny guy to go through and re-seal. Picked up my rear slider today. Pictures this evening.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
No problem at all. I appreciate the info. I'm learning from it and hope others do too!
I received my parts shipment from Cheyenne super man today. Thrilled about some of the parts and not as much on others...will call him and see what we can do... ....I'll post some pictures later tonight!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
The woodgrain on the door panels looks awesome and it matches perfectly to the bezel and glovebox door. What I'm not thrilled with are the cuts around the bezel holes on the bezel and edges on it and the glovebox door. Almost like a dull blade was used and not a perfect fit. I've seen some he did that looked like NOS so that's what I was expecting. Overall they look great but if you look closely there are just some minor things that bugged me....

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
By the time I got everything unpacked (he did an awesome job packaging it all for shipping) It was too late to catch him so I left a message. Hope we can get the little details ironed out tomorrow. Overall, like I said, I'm happy and man, this stuff looks good in pictures
It really is going to be a SUPER awesome interior (pun intended) In addition to the woodgrain, I got an awesome console and AM/FM from him. And I got more of my bead blasted parts in today too I am going to go at least a few thousand over my original planned budget for the truck....but I'm doing so because the truck is really nice and with these awesome parts, it'll be a show quality on truck. I feel it will be on par with some of the other SWB BB super's I've seen sell for 50K+ Not that I expect that kind of price for this in the current economy or gas situation....but just that the truck is going to be THAT nice!!! Here are the pics
