Re: 1967 Chevelle

After several months of waiting, my engine was finally wrapped up and tuned on the dyno. It's a 467c.i. bbc built by Mark Jones (aka Vortecpro) in Colorado Springs. Forged internals, ported heads, roller valvetrain, and a fairly mild 9.6:1 compression. With my Holley 770 Ultra Avenger carb, it made around 590hp and 600ft/lbs. With his 850 xp carb, it made around 605hp. Mark is well known in the Chevelle world for building big blocks that are easy to live with on the street, but make serious power. I'm excited to get it in the car and have some fun.
I mocked up the front accessories using brackets from Alan Grove Components. I'm really happy with the way they fit, and allow you to use off the parts store shelf accessories, and look relatively stock. Now I just need to take it all apart and paint the pieces.

Yeah, sometimes it's doing that kind of stuff that brings me the most joy when working on these cars

Re: 1967 Chevelle

Very nice work! That 467 should be very, very fun! I put vintage air in my 71 Camaro and I have to say it was worth it. Now I need to get a few more kits to put in other rides. Where's that money tree again?

Re: 1967 Chevelle

So the engine is in, and the car is running. I've put about 5 or 6 miles on it with open headers. It feels like it's going to be a lot of fun to drive. I have to take it to the muffler shop in a couple days for exhaust.
Several things left to do, but its getting closer.

Re: 1967 Chevelle

I'm on my second MJ motor in my 66 Chevelle SS First one grenaded and he replaced under warranty. This one now has some major issues not even 3 hours on the motor . Looks like the roller cam is toast having it redone locally. I'm sure he would redo the current motor under warranty but I cant wait a year to get it done and pay 300 frieght each way to fix it .

My thread on the start of the 496 . Now it sounds like a diesel running

Well that's super comforting But seriously, I'm sorry to hear that.
As im sure you know, Mark comes VERY highly recommended by a ton of people on the team chevelle forum. But FWIW, I was less than impressed with the customer service aspect of his business. But, I put up with it because I had my heart set on one of his engines. Hopefully I have a positive experience. Time will tell.
When you say grenaded, what went wrong? And, do you know what caused the problem with you roller cam?

Re: 1967 Chevelle

I guess I should finish this thread off with a few pictures of the finished product. I've put a couple thousand miles on the car now, and it's a blast. It turns out 600 hp and a manual trans is fun.

Sorry I didnt reply sooner the first one number 8 piston self destructed . No evidence of it hitting a valve and or detonation . Damaged the block beyond repair. Like I said he did replace it under warranty but waited almost a year for the replacement .

It wasnt the cam that went south it was the rocker poly locks they cracked and were backing off had three that were cracked. Cheap Chinese parts but Mark is sending me a complete new set of USA made Scorpion rockers but hes moving his shop to Texas so everything is on hold .

Your Chevelle is coming out great

Re: 1967 Chevelle

Man I hate that for you. I kind of hand picked all the parts I wanted to use on mine, and drop shipped them to him. I stuck with a couple of his recommendations like the Isky cam, and Scorpion rockers. So as long as he used the actual internals I sent, I shouldn't have any lower quality parts in mine. I hope it works out for you.
What part of Texas is he moving to? I know he was sure down on the state of Colorado when I picked mine up.

Re: 1967 Chevelle

It turned out awesome! I tried trading for a rough 67 this summer but someone offered the guy more than I wanted to give up so no 67 Chevelle for me.

Re: 1967 Chevelle

jmking9 I bet that thing is a blast to drive! Thanks for the tip on the shifter boot from the fox body. I'm going to order one and add it to my 71 Camaro this winter.
