Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

What a week, the walls are pretty much done in the garage, i have two sheets to put up. I had to replace the water pump in my suburban. I had it at the inspector and his stupidness decided to replace a 15 amp cig lighter fuse with a 30 amp, i didnt know but the fuse has blown a couple of times when i was gone and the wife just left it blown, which is fine i could of looked at it. So later that day i was at the post office and smoke started rolling out of the dash, i took the kids out and it took me a minute to realize it was the cig lighter smoking, i had to cut the fuse. Anyways it damaged the harness under the center councel and melted part of the bezel. The owner payed for the replacement parts, and i told them i would change them out myself since i had no faith in his employee's. Some days.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Its good the wife was not driving, another minute and I am sure it would have gone up in flames. It took about 2 hrs to get that apart, what a pain. everything overlaps and they put all the screws in hard to reach places.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Nice job on the garage walls, that should make it a lot more hospitable. Im ready to tear into the suburban already. I should be a piece of cake to take off the body with the dozer! What is on your priority list to make the trip back down to NC.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Gabriel didnt even noticed you posted. For the old burb i am needing the wiring harnes, compleate and not cut and everything labeled, the engine, tranny, t-case, front axle with the front frame section, driveshafts, rear suspension brackets, rear springs, cut out the floor where the hump is, windshield if good, steering column, wiper motor?, sun visor. Guess that is a good starting point.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

I got the suburban back together and all working again, my brother found me a new pas fender and inner fenders, and a good used tinted back window, the one in mine leaks when it rains. Its getting close.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Some good progress on ripping the old burb apart, didint get any pics done, maybe next weekend. The old burb was fully loaded, and almost entirley stock with no butchering of the wiring perfect doner, the engine runs like a champ the tranny and transefer case work great. The left over parts will be available up here in PA if anyone needs anything. The front clip is in really good shape and some interior parts are decent. I pulled the front clip off, pulled the wiring out of the inside, body is almost ready to pull, but wont be able to get to that until friday.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Hey glimmer, the true southern trucks are pretty soild, this one spent most of its life in Ohio, bought it from a friend over a year ago. I know what you mean about the projects, i cant wait to get this one done and then just drive it, but i am thinking there is no such thing as done I am planning on hitting the local junk yard tomorrow while i am here, they always have something to get, i also found out the rear axle i bought has a bad gov lock, so will see if i can snag another carrier.

Re: Rusty, crushy, but trysty.

Well what a lot of fun...not. Had to find a trailer to haul my stuff back, so that took up most of friday, including driving halfway across PA. Anyways got that taken care of, got the body pulled of the frame another nightmare, and now i am field stripping the parts to the minimum to haul them back, defiantly got a lot of good parts. The most interesting thing i found is that on this burban all of the suspension and 4wd parts are bolted to the frame, so transfering everything to my truck should be alot easier. My brother also found me a set of 1978 chevy service manuals, awesome. I took the 14bolt 6 lug axle apart, found the wonder gov-lock was damaged. I was able to remove the locking parts and basically turned it into an open carrier, so that will save me a few bucks for now.
