You beat me to the post 72longbed; I want to know the same thing. I ordered the original part from Summit that was posted but it requires splicing. I do not want to do that because I have all new wiring in my truck. Please guys, let us know who has this part number.

It keeps being repeated that vtblazer has posted this part number, but I don't see it, and it looks like he got the one for the upgraded lights anyway.

Here is the Warness connector when I took out the wires. It seems that you can put in larger size guage of wire, but you willl need to find new wire connectors to fit back into the plug. It has the little piece on the back to keep it snug inside.

Yes I upgraded to Hellas but they have the same plug as a regular sealed beam does, three prong.

It's the same connector.

I do believe I've said that several times now.

Fellow Members,
I'm the PIA who asked all the questions regarding STOCK headlights. Please don't give KEH a hard time, give me a hard time if you want to. If you look back through ALL of the Posts, they ALL talk about "upgrading" and changing to other than stock headlights. I'm the guy who called Summit and was told "there is no such animal for STOCK headlights." So naturally I asked a couple of common sense questions about this 'upgrade' without changing your headlights from factory sealed beams.

This WebSite is all about helping your fellow man (as far as I'm concerned anyway), and I appreciate VTblazer finally giving the simple, straightforward answer that I and other members were looking for. (Not all of us are Electrical Guru's) Now I can order the proper harness and know what I'm getting myself into. Thats all.

I don't think anyone was giving a hard time or being a PITA.

Sorry if you got that impression. It's often difficult to determine posture on a board.

It's often also difficult to know what someone else knows and what we know is often taken for granted that someone else doesn't have this information as a baseline.

The kit I got from Summit is SUM-890035 and not the AMC-509102.. Is this the wrong wire kit? It says it is for 9005/9006. I just want to make sure I get the right kit for my '70. Want the brighter lights. Will this kit I have work? It also says Headlight Harness 900615.

Yeah, I did the same thing at first...

Still need to return it.

Order the AMC-509102 kit.

It'll replace your existing harness and also plug into your existing sealed beams.

Not sure if anyone has already said this or not cause I didnt read the last 5 pages of posts but sylvania makes a Silver Star bulb for our trucks now, and it fits in the original socket. I can see at least 400% further and brighter WITHOUT my brights. No cutting or splicing required. Plug and Play. Since most all of our trucks are the same, I included the part numbers for bulbs from sylvania.

I have the Sylvania H6024XV's and they are a bright light. Here is an article from a guy that upgraded to relays and did an experiment on the light output at various voltages. I thought it was good info:

Well, today I bought a new Sylvania H6024XV light to replace a broken one on my truck, so I devised a quick experiment.

I hooked up the lamp to an adjustable power supply so I could apply any voltage I want to it and monitor it with a DVM. I taped a white card to the wall and pointed the headlamp at the card from a distance of 8'. Then I mounted a Sekonic incident light meter on a tripod so I could read the brightness of the light reflected from the card. Took a few data points at various voltages and got the following:

Percentage of full light output at various voltages, with 12.6 volts being "100%" :

12.6v = 100%
11.5v = 75%
10.3v = 50%
8.7v = 25%

At 10.3volts they only put out 1/2 of their full light output!

The highbeam current on a 65w bulb is about 5.15 amps, 2 bulbs makes 10.3amps Consider that if the *total* resistance of all the wire, connectors, headlight switch and dimmer switch is equal to only 0.3 ohms (which isn't very much!), than with 10.3 amps flowing thru the circuit you will loose 3.09 volts in the wire and switches.

So, with a battery voltage of 12.6, the bulbs only see 9.5 volts. That's over 1/2 of Your potential light output thrown away right up front! The voltage loss on my '71 wiring was about 3 volts before I did the relays, now it's about 0.4 volts.

I just got a pair of the 6024 XV and what a difference, Great lighting. I found a pair on the net for $23.00 shiped to my door

ordered 4 relays 4wire harnesses 4inline fuses 2boxes of fuses and a free relay wiring book from parts express it was only 30.10 with shipping and they threw in a couple free catalogs and the relays were bosch you cant beat the price the free relay wiring book must have 20 different uses for relays CHECK OUT PARTS EXPRESS

I only went through the first page.I have a question:My headlights are fryed,all other lights work.I suspect a wiring short.Until I get to do a replacement harness,is there a way I can run this Summit kit to get headlights by abandoning the harness?

The new harness uses the old one as a switched power source.

If you have a problem with the old circuit, you'll probably have a problem with the new one.
