Re: 4x4 with air bags?
have you ever ridden in a truck with air bags/ride? Have you ever ridden in a truck that is lifted with big tires? Combine the two...You'll figure it out...

Semis have large bags and ride nice, bouncy truck tires ride nice too. 1 ton trucks with 50 leafs springs and road tires don't, has to be an improvement.... Nice build KRBracing96, any updates?

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
An air-bag will absord the suspension bumps and jars much more softly and efficently then a set of leaf springs would any day.....Even if you ran a stiff sidewall tire...say like a low-profile.
Combine that with a spongy off-road tire, and your ride WILL BE better than a stock or lifted leaf-sprung truck.....add to that adjustibility, and load-control....you can't beat it !! Good work, BTW... Any progress ?? John

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
Ok, I haven't posted in a LONG time, sorry about that guys, but I have been working on it, a LOT! the bags are all done, the pluming is all done motor and trans is in for the final time and the only thing left is to go though the stock wiring harness and remover all the stuff I don't need and finshup the wiring. Also have to mount the seats and put the carpet kit in the interior. Then get her running and tuned (have EFILive for that ) and it will be a driver again. We are not gona work on the body for a while. Dad just wants to get it back so he can enjoy driving it for now and will do all the body work later since it will be mechanically 100% done.
As far as the ride, we can experiment with that. I put the bags on the bars in between the axle and the mount so they have LESS mechanical leverage on the suspension so they will ride better. I have put a lot of thought on the ride quality on this project and I think I've come up with a pretty descent setup. There is plenty of travel in the bags, so I can adjust them with spacers to get the air psi for a nice ride and the bag at the appropriate height Thats the nice thing about bags, you can adjust the spring rate by just changing the air PSI. Let me know what ya think.

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
A little off topic, but were did you get the exhaust hangers? I have been looking for some like that and have come up empty handed so far. Wonderful job on the truck!

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
Well, the rubber part were reused from the duels we had on the truck before that came from the local auto parts store (Big A at the time) and I made the new rods and flat bolt together parts to fit this exhause.

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
Well, got her running today and she runs pretty good!. Still got some work to do to be able to drive it, gota put the carpet and seats in it still, but had it idling and revved it for about 30 minutes on the jack stands. Got all the fluids topped off, and the tranny works! I was skerd of it cuz I had to take all the guts out of it to get to 1 little stupid snap ring, so I could change out the out put shaft for the NP205 transfer case. I also put a TG shift kit in it when I did that and anytime I work on a tranny I'm AMAZED when it works after I get done
I have a couple small problems like a leak in the Vband coupler in the cross over pipe, but the problem that has me most confused is that the PCM won't turn on the fuel pump relay. The pin out diagram I have for it shows that pin 9 (grn w/white strip) on the C2 green conector is the primary fuel pump relay control, that I connected to the ground on the FP relay, and it doesn't work. The only code it's throwing is fuel pump relay control not working (go figure). Any ideas?

Re: 4x4 with air bags?
I have no idea about your fuel pump relay problem I'm amazed you got the engine running,I never would have been able to sort that mess of wiring out I realy like the air suspension setup my father has been kicking that idea around for his 86 dually around forever. Thanks for the detailed pics keep us posted with progress. In my opinion you are a true craftsman.

Thanks for all the props guys! Got the relay problem fix, turns out that with the fuel pump relay, the PCM sent power to it to run it on, not like most of the rest of the things it controls where it provides the ground to activate it.
