Thank you for your service, I have a feeling you had it far worse than I do. Anyhow you aren't old, you've just aged.... like a fine wine.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Another update...

I ordered the Porterbuilt Mild Dropmember with PB LCA's and the NoLimit Engineering Basic Fatbar 4-link. I am excited to get all the parts in so I can start building the frame up.

On a side note: If amyone is looking for suspension parts PM me. I have ART StrongArms LCAs available and a complete rear end with trailing arms and cross-member that will be for sale/trade soon. The LCAs have a couple years of use and I can't use them with the PB mild dropmember.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Beautiful Stepper you have. Did you have to trim anything from the rear fender lip to get your 20's to tuck up in there when aired out. Can't wait to see what you do with it now. Sounds like some really nice parts your going to throw at it.

If you look at page 4 towards the bottom there is a photo of it. I did have to cut out a bunch of it. When I ordered my rims I got the wrong backspacing and I was a 1/2" off and it made it a hair too wide. With the Step-side I am limited on space in there and hopefully when I build the F@^d 9" for it I will get the space right. It will still be a tight fit but should work nice.

I have been looking at your inner fenders for a while now and may send a PM once I start throwing the body parts back on.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Thanks for the info. My rear Coys are 20x10 with 5.5" backspacing and now i'm very optomistic I can get them to fit on my bagged stepper after looking at yours. I'll already plan on tubbing the bedsides so i'm not worried about that. I'm running 295/40/20's and have the early narrow rear in mine.

Also just to let you know I have Mike's Slosh Tubz for mine. Very nice quality fenders. If you need inner fenders you need to get them.

20x10 with 5.25" B.S. Nitto NT555, 275/35ZR20 are the wheel/tire combo I have on mine. The tires only rubbed when it is aired out or when I was in really low cruise height. I think you'll like the combo, may be close but it will look good.

How much narrower is the early narrow rear?

I had been looking at them since I first found his build thread. I know that they look better than anything I had made up until now.

Did the info I passed above help in figuring out whether your rear wheel/tire combination will work in your set up?

I have to wait until my bed gets here from Mar-k. Then we will find out. But like i said i'm pretty confident I can get it to work. My rims have a 1/2" more backspacing then yours and I also have the narrower rear. I was ready to sell them until I saw pics of your truck, now I figured I will hold off until i get the bed on. If I can't get them to fit then i'll sell them and get something else.

When you get your bed parts let me know if the quality is worth it. The only thing I have usable on mine is the tailgate.

I think you will have no issues with the fender lip but you may run into problems with the actual bedside. I'm not in NC right now so I can't look at it and honestly I do not know if my rear end is the longer one or not. Your wheel B.S. is .25" narrower and your rear end is .75" narrower each side so you should be close. If I remember correctly I do have a little over an inch between the tire and the bedside, but I can't remember if that is from the bolts holding the stainless trim in or the actual bedside. The bed is completely apart otherwise I would measure it for you.

Thanks for the info Adam, I had already planned to tub the bedsides so I was only worried about the fender lip. As long as that clears I should be good. It will hurt to cut up brand new bedsides but it will be worth it after it is all said and done with the way it will look.

As far as Mar-k quality, my father bought a complete bed kit from them for his 40 Chevy Pickup and it was perfect. Very nice quality. Right now they have a deal running where you can put a bed on lay away for up to 6 months and also have free freight. So that's what I did. I should have it by September.

Welp, another update. I just ordered the Concept One Victory Series pulley system and I think they look bad a$$. Kevin, one of the sales persons, stayed late and answered all the questions I had and gave me a 10% military discount.
