Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
that front end kit looks good! any problems with install? does it come with everything you see except water neck? was the vintage air kit reasonable in price? I have been looking at the billet specialties top mount tru trac kit, didn't know vintage air made one.

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
The instructions were very straight forward and yes it came with everything except the water neck. Nice stainless hardware all around. Kind of pricey but the components are top notch and it is a very compact system and fit well with no clearance problems. The damper requires some serious torque since it is a press fit item and you need to install the power steering pulley but nothing I would deem too difficult for the average home mechanic.

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
Hi, I have just looked at your posts on your truck and would like to say thankyou for giving me some inspiration, your truck is going to be awsome,
My question is, im just about to order suicide door hinges and have noticed that you have plates on the outside of the inner door skin, obviously there was a very good reason for this, could you please explain why as i would like to keep the origional doo look, Thanks Darron. Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
We needed to put in the structure to brace the doors since they are quite heavy and have sufficient structure to mount the hinges to. It also allowed for enough movement that the door moves out as it opens so there is no risk of the door hitting the cab.

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
So will you have to make a interior door cover to hide the plate ?
Also thos handles are very cool, not sure to go with handles or smooth with solenoids ? Thanks for your reply. |

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
Yes, I planned from the get go to do custom panels. I really like how my handles came out...I just prefer having something to open the door with over going the solenoid route.

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
You can call their shop to order the handles, I think they make small runs of them.
Other links to handles I considered emulating: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/496327/4 http://www.gabescustom.com/mm5/merch...y_Code=handles |

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
Been looking for exterior handles not much luck so im going to stay with my first choice, shaved with remote controlls & poppers,
Just orderd a load of goodies for the truck from the US and going to make a start as soon as parts arrive, 1. suicide doors. 2. air ride x 4. 3. new exhaust system. 4. smooth bed cover (aluminum) on air actuators. Get all this running and cruze this summer and iron out any faults then strip the truck down to chassis over the winter. Thanks for the reply, ? hows your truck. |

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
Been a while but i've made some progress...Got the AC fit in the dash, Steering column and u-joints in and my 2 piece driveshaft arrived.
Things have been slow due to work on my jeep. I feel the need to compensate for the lowness of the truck with some altitude. 4linked (like the truck) on 35's and the winch made getting it on the trailer to go back to paint real easy: |

Re: 63 Short Fleet Build
We tried the two hinge kit first but the geometry wasn't working. With how thick the door is and the body lines, the door it would come too close to the body.
The single hinge kit moves the door out farther as it opens it. |
